Beginning to regret pre-ordering from Realhotstuff... I've placed 5 or 6 orders with them over the years, yet they're apparently refusing to respond to my inquiry made last week asking if I pre-ordered a Gateway early enough to guarantee I'd get one of the units from the first shipment they receive ("ETA late this week" according to their site).

Quite annoyed that this place I've been exclusively loyal to for 5 years is flat-out ignoring me.

Buy a small 2GB one to set up the Gateway exploit, and then a bigger class 10 SD card to run the games. That's what I'd do if I were in your position.

Class 10 is beyond excessive. I have a Class 10 for my tablet: 70 MB/s read, 20 MB/s write. There is no way the 3DS needs anything beyond Class 4, and Class 4 (or sometimes Class 6) is generall enough to record 1080p video. Let's not recommend others follow suit and throw away their money on overkill when they can get by with a much cheaper Class 4 microSD, or several for convenience's sake considering it's currently 1 ROM per card. The only benefit is it will be a little quicker to write ROMs on a PC to a Class 10, but again, why not just buy more cards and have several games on hand?

I just received an email from modchipcentral with a tracking number. Not sure if its actually been shipped or if they are just sending out the emails for the shipment they receive later this week. I ordered it June 13th.

I bought an 8gb class 10 microSD from sony for 6.95,-€. I think that should be payable for everyone. :)

That's not a bad price--I'd just not recommend people specifically shop for Class 10s for this particular application as it just isn't necessary. Someone with a Gateway and no microSD card(s) for it might find themselves overcharged for a Class 10 at brick and mortar. I bought a bunch of Class 4 8GBs for 5USD per. Given the small size, I'd probably not feel tempted to use these cards on something more resource-intensive in the future like a camera or phone, so I expect 3DS is the only use I'll have for these.

Class 10 means minimum 10MB/s read/write. Your class 10 is "special".

The class doesn't only dictate speed in reality, very often you will find class 2/4s in cheap brand will have problems with the likes of a DS, so would assume even more so for a 3DS (though I have no idea factually).

Class 4 is not enough to record 1080p video at standard 4.1 high profile, that has a peak bitrate of 62.5mbit/s just for video.

Even class 6 isn't a good idea for that in reality most would say even using a normal class 10 is a bad idea and an SDXC "extreme" card from the likes of sandisk is the recommended card by people into that.

Really? I sent them an email asking about that yesterday, and I got a replay today saying that I'd be in the first batch... =|

I'm not advocating people go with cheap cards, and any issues in flashcarts I would expect to come from cards of poor quality as opposed to cards of inadequate throughput. I've not encountered issues with any of the mini/microSD GBA/DS cards I've had, but I've always avoided MIC cards, opting for Japan, Taiwan or Korea. Point taken on the 1080p bit. I've read in the past that Class 4-6 is adequate for that, but surely only at criminally low bit-rates.

Did you email them directly or use the contact form? I emailed them directly at [email protected]. By the way, when did you place your order? Did their response come from that address?

I used the contact form with the department option set to "General," maybe that's why. Also, I placed the pre-order on August 26th (yesterday) at around 7PM EST, if that helps you at all. :)

Thanks, that's very helpful indeed. I should be in on the first batch too :)

RHS just shipped mine, ordered on the 16th and just leaving now. They say two weeks. That's a lot of time to go from Hong Kong to Korea. My PlayAsia games rarely take so long.

Ordered from RHS, wish i did it earlier but I'm not in a huge rush. Just want to be able to backup my games, mainly AC for my sister to get her own town.

Wanted to order from modchipfactory but i couldn't confirm my order for some reason, had similar problems with other retailers. Only RHS let me place my order.
