does the whole system run on only 4.1-5? or only the red card?

Seeing as the red card is what loads 3DS ROMs, why does it matter? If an update is released for later firmwares, you'll most likely need to re-run it at the time it's released so running it ahead of time isn't doing the average person much good (especially since the change is lost on a restart of the system anyways), and while the blue cart is a DS flash cart... there's a lot more out there that likely do way more anyways.

Sorry if this information has already been posted, I honestly can't find it anywhere. Does the Gateway 3DS support online play ? If I load up Mario Kart with GW3DS can I play some online matches ?

id assume Mario Kart 7 wont because you need the 1.1 patch and only way to get that is e-shop and updating to latest firmware

id assume Mario Kart 7 wont because you need the 1.1 patch and only way to get that is e-shop and updating to latest firmware

So, if I put my original Mario Kart 7 game on my 3DS (4.5) now, wont be able to play online ? Let me check that as soon I found the game

no, unless you already downloaded the 1.1 patch from the E-shop to stop the online track cheating glitch

technically with kernel access they could patch it

they would need to extract the 1.1 patch data in the RAM and then just make the gateway code load it when the game is loaded (same could be done with other game DLC also)

Just tried MK7, my online did not work but SSF4 instead works fine ( Did even 1 match and lost :S, can't belieave I lost. Well long time no play and the guy run away after wining 1 match. What a lame guy!)

So I just updated the system to the latest FW, which is 6.2.0.12, to get the demo for Mario & Luigi, it's not a bad game but now I feel bad for accepting the update

Ouch. That's not good, because by doing so you risk never being able to play 3DS backups in future.

I know but I really wanted to try out the game, I'm too weak to say no for a free game ^^; I hope 3DS team make a software to downgrade the software somehow.

On another note I just realized, should we expect cheat codes for 3DS backups in the future? I could use cheat codes for Mario & Luigi seeing how I suck at RPG games the only way I beat the first ones was using infinite HP

To me, honestly, cheating ruins the game. Especially for games like Pokemon. I'm personally hoping no, but you never really know.

I personally never played the M&L games, but from what I do know, yeah, it's hard but fun at the same time. I can't give you an accurate answer since I don't know, but I'll take your word for it is; in general though, cheats just completely ruin the experience, especially once people start developing online blockers.

^This, sometimes games are too hard to the point they're already not enjoyable without some kind of cheating to make it more fair, I'm not saying break the game with codes but allow for at least Max HP or something.

Well, at least you can do the Homepass thing.

Kinda reminded me when I have to mash X 5 times/s just to get through the final boss of M&L BIS.

Uh... If you hadn't have updated (and were on 4.5), with a GW, you could have played ALL games free.

Why update to play one game free? Makes no sense.
