Sup. I'm planning to purchase a hacked PS3, and I can choose between CFW 3.55 or Rogero 4.46. I was told that Rogero 4.46 allows you to play all games currently out without patching them and play online. But surfing the web, it seems most people use CFW 3.55. So I'm wondering if there's any reason for this? Does CFW 3.55 have any advantages over "higher" versions?

And while we're at it, is it possible to downgrade to 3.55 if I go with 4.46?

There are still some 3.55 CFW homebrew out there that sadly will not work once you go beyond, unless the author updated it to enable support for newer firmware...

I know one that stands out is the Code Unique which was the reverse-engineering of the usrcheat dongle. Sadly, there is no 4.* equivalent anywhere, even though it was kind of handy at times, and just fun to use.

With that said, your basic stuff like multiman has been pretty much patched and ready. The upside to going to 4.46 CFW is that it means no need to pre-patch your newer games for the most part.

Uhh... source, please?!?! I can't imagine this statement to be true.

It's possible with the Rebug downgrader, though I don't see any clear cut advantage to doing so. Technically, you can go from Rogero 4.46>Rebug 4.46>Rebug 3.55.
