EA's latest would-be blunder (game prices)

I came across this video and it was very disturbing. Here, have a look.



Basically what it says is EA is planning to release its games in Europe and the UK for 54.99 pounds. If they release them here for that price, it'll equal $80 dollars. Eighty freaking dollars. Do they seriously think they'll make any money for such an outrageous price? I concur with the video's author; they can't do this. They just... can't. And if they do, well it'll give me a great reason to stock up on the late, great Playstation 2's. And the GameCubes...

The prices between foreign markets can differ wildly, so EA changing the price abroad (especially in markets like India, where the prices on games are disproportionately low) doesn't necessarily mean they're changing in the US.

Plus, Sony has already confirmed that PS4 games will remain at $60 price point. I mean, EA could try to hike the prices all on their own and make their games significantly more expensive than the competition, but I doubt it. Talk all you want about EA being greedy, but they're not suicidal.

Also, a) "would-be blunder" is the wrong term here, and b) a Youtube video of price speculation isn't news.

If memory serves, games don't have a set price in the UK like they do in America. They fluctuate wildly from game to game and retailer to retailer.

I hope they're not suicidal. Well what term would you give it? The person in the video was tipped off by a person who read it from a news company called Game in the UK. The video is just a reaction.

A) Here's the definition of would-be. "Would-be blunder" doesn't work in this context at all. Just "EA's Latest Blunder?" would work much, much better.

It sounds like people are taking the conversion rate instead of the 1:1 pricing deal. Games cost 60-65 dollars in the U.S. too. But there's been so much depressing news in the videogame industry that everything (to me) sounds bad.

Seems on par with nextgen preorder prices.
I don't really buy many EA games bar Mass Effect and Dead Space and I very rarely buy day 1 anymore (still need Dead Space 3!) so I won't be supporting this.
Today I got Bioshock Infinite for £12 so waiting a few months after release day definitely has it's perks.

What really needs to be addressed is digital pricing, new games on PS3 are sometimes £59.99. The saving from no packaging and no shipping should be passed on to the cusumer, instead we pay 50% more than retail!

To be perfectly honest, I think the prices of games are too high already. Higher prices doesn't mean higher profits and by lowering the price you make your product affordable to a broader audience.

Think of how many people who buy pre-owned games would buy them new, even if only for the sake of pre-order DLC or other bonuses if they could afford them just as easily as getting them used? Look at Steam with its Steam sales and low prices - Valve practically built an empire at this point, Origin's no match for Steam.

If anything, games should cost $40 new - then I'd gladly throw some cash at the developers for a spanking new copy rather than wait for the first wave of pre-owned discs to roll in.

Remember! Developers and publishers only make money on selling brand new games - selling used games is in the retailer's interest.

True, but there's a certain price where I draw my price limit. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not paying anything over $60 dollars for a Nintendo game. I've never liked FIFA; I'll never play another Pokemon game; and Battlefield just isn't interesting to me.
