Well, a Nexus 7 should emulate most N64 games without a hitch but some games(Conker's Bad Fur Day is a good example) can't be played full speed on any Android. Wait for the Tegra 4. It's rumored to be able to emulate Gamecube-level hardware, so it shouldn't have any problems with N64 games.

the most powerful tab at the moment is the Nexus 10. very powerful and has a nice size. as for size anything with tegra 3 so the Nexus 7. now if you get it and you want to push performance get CM10.1 and use FAUX kernal it pushes the tab to about almost 2Ghz it is very dangerous due to the fact it makes the tab very warm. personally i use Mkernal uv oc, generally around 1.6GHz with a deadline io and overclocked GPU at 520 mhz (similar settings to that of the M1 HTC one) this is stable and allows you to push the frames with out killing your battery to much. so far i've been playing n64 games w/ verry little issue. my suggestion use pauls code if you use an n64 emulator it is polished and always actively being worked on, also it has been copied many times and pushed for retail on the play store. (money grabbing people that want cash for someone else work). hope this info is helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Tegra 4 may emulate GameCube games but I highly guess they will be slow and nearly unplayable. As for the Nexus tablets, is there a big difference in power between 7 & 10?

the Nexus 7 uses a tegra based SOC so the cpu/gpu are all in one the tegra 3 is said to have the power of 22 gpu's?! i might be wrong but it's all built on quality and power (that's Nvidia fort ya) where at the N10 uses a dual core cpu and a quad core mali gpu so two separate things and twice the amount of ram so N7's 1GB compared to the N10's 2GB. it basically has more in it, for performance. both are very good devices. as for gamecube emulation, don't bother no one has even tried to make it possible as of yet, i could imagine that the hardware is more powerful that the old school arm chipsets that where in the GC so if anyone where to build an emulator to do such things it could ether make or break. but then again we have psp emulation running at 100% so ya never know.

Can the Nexus 7 play most N64 games in fullspeed? I know the 10 is more powerful, but it is almost as expensive as the Ipad 4.
By the way, do you know what is best N64 emulator for android?

Let's put it this way. Conker is one of the games that is hard to have run full speed, and so far I have had little issue. I am running Paul's code of n64 emulation and it is very good.

I think Nexus 7 is the best, I'm posting this from it.

On Google Play (aka the market) there's an emulator called SuperN64 and it runs most of the games at full speed. However, somr of them have some minor graphical glitches but they're playable.

There's also an Alpha version of Dolphin for Android, it's free, but the games are still laggy and there are a lot of glitches that will make it almost unplayable.

What the hell does that even mean

No current or near-future ARM SoC is even close to being powerful enough to emulate the GCN at any playable speed.

P.S. - Nexus 7 is probably the best price/performance ratio you can get right now. It's also easily powerful enough to run an N64 emulator. The only thing you're counting on after that is that the Android emulators can play the games you want.

Agreed on Nexus 7.

Best N64 emulator is Mupen64 made by Paulscode. Most games are playable at full speeds, some suffering from graphical glitches and such but will most likely be fixed as development of the emulator continues.

Don't listen to anyone that says GCN emulation will be playable on the Tegra 4

I own the Nexus 7 and can vouch that I have NEVER experienced any lag using Mupen 64 for Android. I'm also rooted and running CyanogenMod, but even on stock I always remember this thing being an absolute beast. For the price, there's no way you can beat the Nexus 7. Also, if you wanted to pay less, Nexus 7's will be marked down soon making way for the newer Nexus 7 which has a 1080p resolution, updated processor and a rear facing camera. I expect that to be released soon and be at the same price point as the current Nexus 7

Honestly you're not going to enjoy playing N64 games on a tablet very much unless you use a gamepad which makes the whole thing a bit of a hassle.
The Nexus 7 is a great tablet though. The CPU clock of new flagship devices increase a little all the time, but with most devices being able to be overclocked and most things not even taking advantage of the full power you don't neccessarily need the single most powerful device to be able to emulate N64 games well (or run pretty much any Android game)

Playing N64 games on a tablet is extremely hard because of not having buttons. You could invest 50-100$ in a PSP then hack it and play most N64 with no problems.

Or you could buy a PS3 controller for $25. While it sort of takes the portability out of it, it works great at home.

Nvidia's Project Shield. You just want to play N64 games right? Also it has proper controls and HDMI out

Its the first(Correct me if I'm wrong) device with Tegra 4.

Off topic but I also want to try out emulation on the Nexus 7. Is the PS3 controller as good as it gets for bluetooth controller or is there something smaller so I could throw it in my suitcase the next time I go on a plane journey?

You can use your PS3, Wii or another Bluetooth controller like MOGA. In my experience all work well, but the PS3 controller is the controller I continually find myself using for emulators

I wouldn't say that is the greatest thing if you want to actually go out and play.... I mean you could but then you will just look silly doing it. At least with a PSP you will be able to smoothly run PS1 and PSP games as well. If you were going to just play at home should just invest in a Wii and hack that and play Wii games as well. Why spend 500$ on a tablet if you could spend less than 100$ for all the things he wants to do with it.
