And the plot thickens! I'm interested, though I'll probably get it when there won't be any noteworthy PS3 games coming out..

RISE FROM THE DEAD THREAD.

Bam, new videos. Real kicker is that is says you can run homebrew on newer PS3s that don't have CFW. They ditched the remote for a XMB menu type deal.

Rather surprised (maybe?) that it took them this long to put out an update. Even so, if this becomes successful, I want Team COBRA to actually release their prior dongle software as a more open/available pkg for us to install and run. I love the concept of being able to direct load and boot PS1/2/3/P ISOs that the dongle enables... but clearly they are not going to be getting new buyers for now it now, especially when a new PS3 you buy now won't have the compatible firmware to run that stuff. Then again, I'd just as well consider getting this ODE if it allows me to load all such ISOs freely on even a PS3 that is still running OFW.

This is no surprise. It has been possible to create valid disc images that would work on an OFW for quite some time now. However we could never load those disc images until PS3 ODD Emulators came out.

Oh really? I wasn't quite aware of that. But in other news pertaining to release;

yes, it will ship as soon as available, probably end of the week.

holy shot ,this is amazing ,i though it was just an ODE ,now it can run homebrew on consoled with new syscon too
i wonder if they will include the cobra dongle features too ,i know ps2 has been mostly worked out through classic conversion and psp too but sll would be nice to get loading over network features
I'm curious if "Advanced Smart Fusion AES encryption and decryption engine on board" means it can play back encrypted (1:1) ISOs?

What is "BC consoles"?

backward compatible with ps2 consoles, 40 gig, 60 gig and 80 gig fat consoles

PS1 and PS2 ISO support to follow (on BC consoles in a future update)

From the site. No idea if PSP will follow that though, especially seeing as there is no native PSP support on the PS3.

goddamn it, bobby.

just mailed my ps3 off to have cfw installed, as I had concluded that cobra ode was dead. well, for my model of ps3, cfw should be pretty much the equivalent (and cheaper) option, i don't think cobra will have any real advantages.

but for the newest models, this is the only option, and it seems a good one.

I'm still kinda skeptical about it. Looks good so far but some info is missing. First it would have been nice to know what exactly needs to be soldered on unhackable consoles. Them saying it isn't hard doesn't help me that much :/.
Next is the format of backups. Will it be like JB rips? If yes than that settles online use, I think there is some info on the discs, like security sectors on X360 backups, that can be detected if missing. 3k3y backups are ISO's that are encrypted and have this kind of files, I believe that's the way to go.
And lastly, Cobra Manager... how can they be sure that some future update isn't going to detect and/or disable it. External solution would be way more secure :/.

I can see the reason why did they able to execute a homebrew through BD-ROM since Sony cant blacklist SELF files found in Bluray Discs, they are not NPDRM signed. You can achieve homebrews executing by using the APPSELF private keys used in 3.55 or lower.

If just in case that sony did blacklist APPSELF keys, the probability that old games signed in 3.55 or lower may not be playable anymore.

They've updated their site with answers to most frequent questions on some forums. It seems there are going to be ISO's used, not JB rips and also 4k consoles are going to have at least 4 solder points. Too bad they didn't mention what 2k5 and 3k consoles are going to need soldered.

They say that as long as you don't remove the external USB storage device (or eject the emulated disc), the selected game will remain in the XMB even after reboot (just like a regular disc would). If i use an external USB hard disk and leave it connected all the time to the ps3, does anyone know if it stays powered (spinning) when you normally turn off the console (stand by)?

And can this work with PSN only games? Or is it only for PS3 disk images (.iso's) and homebrews?
