Ok after doing so many different tests. I realized it had to be a HDD related issue. I did one last test and that was to test it on Fat32 64kb cluster size and voila! it works now. Cyan probably doesn't remember, but I was here on the forums a few weeks ago asking why usb loader gx asks for 32kb cluster size. He offered to remove that error message about 32KB cluster size. Well Cyan, I'm sorry to ask this of you, but can you please remove the error message on usb loader gx? :) thanks.

My last question is if devolution only requires to insert the retail disc once, then where does it save that information? I'm asking because when I update devolution I delete gc_devo folder and replace it with the new version. My concern is having to insert the retail disc for all my gc games again for every devolution update.

It stores it in the Apps\gc_devo folder on the same device that your ISOs are stored. So if your games are on USB and you're deleting the gc_devo folder on the SD card then you're fine.

(Devolution will create an Apps\gc_devo folder on the USB drive if it doesn't exist)

I'm not exactly sure what USB gecko is. I have Gecko OS on HBC.

If you don't know what it is, you don't have one. It's a piece of hardware which goes in the GC memory card slot and has a micro USB port for connecting to a PC. Software can then send debugging messages to the PC through the USB port.

There's no message about cluster size when using Devolution. The cluster size is a DIOS MIOS limitation, so it only check the partition format and displays that warning/error message with DM, not Devolution.

Same issue with r197. Cyan I had to download from both devolution links to get the loader.bin file and boot.dol. I had to also move the loader.bin file from the data folder to the gc_devo directory. Is that normal? or should I just leave the loader.bin folder in the data folder?

I will try an older version of devolution, if I can hopefully find one :( . I'm having troubles finding at least 1 older version. It might be interesting to note that it was working for me when I had a partition at fat32 with 64kb cluster size.
If you use the official loader (provided in the first link) then you don't need the second link nor the loader.bin
The "loader.bin" file is needed only when you use a different game loader (Wiiflow, USBLoaderGX, etc.) and you need to place that file in the expected folder (SD/wiiflow/ for example, or where you want for USBLoaderGX), or if you need to compile the official loader yourself.

Can this run on the Family Edition Wiis? (Those Wiis without GC Ports).

What happens if you even put a Gamecube Disc in those Wiis? And after installing a MIOS maybe?
Thanks.

That'd be awesome if GC games work that way on the Family Edition Wiis.

To reuse a post I made elsewhere, this thread should be very relevant to your interests; particularly starting from this post and onward in said thread:

Alright, I still don't have a Wii U to test with, but I now have a Family edition Wii to test the 3-inch disc adapter with, and it does make GC games work. Popped in Sonic Heroes, the disc was detected normally, and the game's demo loop has been running for 30 minutes. No strange sounds from the drive or anything. It just seems to work.

And no, since I haven't rigged any controller ports into the system, I can't actually play the game. I'm tempted to add a controller port in now though. :)

Hopefully this successful Family edition test encourages someone with a Wii U to test a disc adapter. There's been a lot of negativity and misinformation surrounding the Family edition's ability to read GC discs since that Wii model was released, so it would be nice to find out if the Wii U's vWii mode supports GC discs before the same type of misinformation leads people to believe it's impossible when it simply hasn't been tested yet.

You'll probably need to modify the drive or use an adapter for those Wii's to be able to accept the GC disk in order to verify the disk image for use with this.

Even then, though, you're very limited on controls since there's no GC controller ports on a family wii and only a very limited USB keyboard and mouse control is known to have been added as of yet.

EDIT : :ninja:'d

Sorry I was not clear about that. I did mean the error message from using DIOS MIOS. Can you please remove it or make it an optional warning message like you offered to do a few weeks ago. I would like to use both devolution and dios mios.

Well hello fellow internet citizens!
I have a question here about devolution. You see, i have one of the newer wiis (the black ones that came with the bundle) and it dosnt have backwards compability. I wont talk about piracy, but, as stated by tueidj it can run on those wiis (i read it in another post i think) but you must insert the disk on the disc drive. Now, will the tiny disks work with my wii, and if so, can i import games from other regions (like japan).
It would be awesome to support the wiimote just for the devolution app just to check if the game at least starts :S
Keep up the good work :)

well, the wiimote does work in the loader app. It just doesn't work in game in the public version (tueidj hasn't released those features yet) as far as your drive accepting the disk

If you're lucky, you have one of the few drives that can still accept them by itself. If not, there are ways to get around that (See the linked thread for details)

Never heard of that disc adpater before...
The thing now is the full compability with the wiimote...

Is this a statement or a question?
I knew that tueidj had been able to play with the WiiMote but I thought the version he released didn't have that ability.

People's tests so far have shown that it doesn't work (maybe there's a key combination you have to press on the USB keyboard to activate it?) but I do know you can use a USB mouse to control a little bit.

EDIT :
Here's my collection of links about using a USB keyboard and mouse (all from the same page)

You can also use the a USB keyboard as a GC keyboad ... but the instructions for that are on a different forum.

I have a quick devolution question:

My flash drive only has a limited space and I have a fairly large collection of gamecube games. Is it possible to authorize all my discs without having all of the 1to1 ISOs on the flash drive at the time?

Nope, only 1:1 non-shrunken isos but according to some users a few work if shrunken. No idea which ones though.

It is a curious case of discs with a "strange" recording, and are very few. Contrary to what many people think, GC games are filled with garbage to let the data at the end of the discs (outer edge), for better reading.

It is not recommended shrink the isos for use it with Devo.
Simply use WIT:
Code:
wit copy --trunc "name-in".iso "name-out".iso
This truncates the ISOS leaving it always as small as possible for use it with Devo, is the minimum you can get to make it work with Devo.

In 2-disc games in the other hand, the second iso is always shrinkable since these are not checked, DMT is recomended with these since other shrink tools are crap and I did not find how to do this with WIT.
