If you REALLY want to try you could get yourself one of these
and see if it'll accept and verify a retail disk with it.
No one's been willing to drop the cash and give one a try. Scared it'd either just not work or actually break something.
After that, the trick would be controlling it. You're only options at this point would be a very limited USB keyboard and mouse control.

Yeah, it was just the first good image that google threw at me. It does take a little bit of work finding a site that sells similar products but they seem to run between $25 and $30How much does that cost? I can't seem to find a price anywhere on their site, or even an option to buy it. I'm not saying that I'm going to buy it (I doubt it would work for verification on a Wii U, and even if it did, you wouldn't have any controls anyway), I'm just curious on the price.
I can't see the picture... (error 404) Is it an external USB DVD Drive? I have a pretty expensive Sony external USB DVD drive (it was expensive because it can record DVD's with out a computer you can just connect pretty much anything to it that has some sort of video out and record it...)
I would be willing to test it out on my Wii's, I don't have my Wii-U's hacked... (I don't have Lego anything for the Wii and the other hacks are blocked.)
Are the other hacks blocked? I used Smash bros for mine!!
Well, I found one, but it's listed as "unavailable"
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PD89WI
I personally found more results by searching for '3 inch cd adapter' or '3 inch dvd adapter'
EDIT: found one that's supposedly in stock by VenMill - listed from cheapest to most expensive:

http://store.cdtagandstorage.com/3inchadapter.aspx

Note that in the VenMill Amazon link that GameCube discs are even mentioned in the description (though only referring to disc repair). It's my understanding that VenMill makes some sort of disc repair device, so they've made an adapter for their own product that may just happen to work with others.
In reading this conversation that tueidj is having with Jenna Scoville, it doesnt seem to be an issue with controllers. "I am already able to play gamecube games using the wii's/wii u's/ps3's bluetooth controllers"
I don't have a Wii U yet, but I tested a 3-inch disc adapter (made by Sony ) with a Gamecube disc in a Wii and that worked perfectly fine. I'm assuming vWii mode doesn't acknowledge GC discs, but since Devolution seems to be able run GC images in that mode and Devolution can probably access the Wii U's disc drive, I would expect disc verification to be possible.
I did try to consider that before posting. That's only really relevant if it was one of the new Wii "slims" that don't accept GC discs normally.
devolution can already emulate a memcard on usb or sd and if you read a few posts back the author has already gotten it to control GC games with types of conrollers that CAN be connected to a wii u. All it needs is to be able to see a disk to "install" the corresponding disk image for use with that console and, BAM, public GC loading on wii uWhat's the point of GC disc support if you can't hook up any GC controllers and GC memory cards?
