Timesplitters has become sort of a cult classic. It was developed by Free Radical Design, ex-employees of Rare, who made some of the more famous couch FPS games like Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark. After Free Radical died and was absorbed into Crytek, the franchise seemed lost in time. After a 75,000 strong fan petition failed to rustle the jimmies of Crytek to revive the franchise, they did the next best thing: gave a group of 25 fans the go-ahead to resurrect the series. And resurrect they will, with Timesplitters Rewind.

The project aims to remake Timesplitters' classic multiplayer, but now in the fancy new CryEngine 3. The team was given the okay to use Timesplitters assets, but they chose CryEngine 3 for "a more modern look." Project manager Michael Hubicka still reassures fans that "It will still feel like a TimeSplitters game."

There's no intention of remaking the single player or co-op, just the versus multiplayer and Challenge Mode. You'll be able to play online, over LAN, or solo with 8-16 players, including bots. It'll include all the original game types plus new modes.

A demo is planned for December, and the entire game will be 100% free, with free new content coming as well. The team is currently doing this with their free time, so donations are of course appreciated.

So, it doesn't seem like it's time to split for this franchise.

The first one was shitty.
Second some very good moments I used to play it a lot on my Gamecube but ultimately it hasn't aged as well as I hoped.
Third one was OK.

All in all, I'm OK if there isn't another Timesplitters game but I wish this well.

Ditto, part 2 was where it is at!

Another Timesplitters?

Sure, it's just a fan project, but that beats nothing at all in my book.

I've been following the original Facebook group that started drumming up support (direct support, such as hailing Crytek and other people within the company about the idea). For those that didn't know, many assets were already being prepared and converted for use in Unreal Tournament 2003 (or one of the games). I don't remember if a public version was released or not, but it's interesting to know that many of the assets are already available and ready for conversion.

Can't wait to get back into some good ol' fragging. This is the next best thing since Goldeneye Source!

You sir (ma'am?) should play it, it's quite deserving of the name.

if its gonna be only dx11 then they should just forget it. make something that the majority can play. as long as they cater for the ps3,360,pc with lower end card... they would be loved
o.O' Not sure if serious.

Dude, it's a fan game that uses CryEngine3. I'm not sure what version of DX that requires, but the chance of this getting to consoles is extremely small.

still a possibility. considering the most commonly used engine today is unity that even allows building for consoles and mobiles... they should look into this direction.

I think I might have miswrote that.

"I hope they make the game playable on lower end cards"
