Supermassive Games, known for titles such as Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology, is gearing up for the release of its next game: Directive 8020, a sci-fi survival horror narrative adventure. In fact, the team revealed the latter's launch date and aired a new trailer for the occasion:

Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope. When the colony ship Cassiopeia crash lands on the planet, its crew soon realize they are far from being alone.

Hunted by an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey, the crew of the Cassiopeia must outwit their pursuers to make it home alive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth.

Features of Directive 8020 showcased in the new trailer include:
  • Choice-Based Gameplay: Cooper, the ship's medic, is fueled by paranoia and faces a harrowing decision as her crewmate Mitchell pleads for release from behind a sealed door. Cooper, unknowing if he’s human or not, has a difficult decision to make. This moment underscores a core theme of Directive 8020: trust no one, as every action has consequences.
  • The “Double” Reveal: Based on how the game branches and your previous decisions, Cooper can now possess the gun instead of Commander Stafford. Two identical versions of Cernan (the ship's Engineer) rush into view and you must choose: who is the mimic and who do you allow back into the crew? One choice will prove fatal.
  • Planetary Exploration: For the first time, the trailer teases on-planet gameplay showcasing the harsh, alien landscape of Tau Ceti f.
  • Talent & Track: The trailer features lead talent Lashana Lynch as pilot Brianna Young, accompanied by the track “Comply” from Brighton-based band Blood Red Shoes.
Directive 8020 also introduces the Turning Points mechanic. It allows players to rewind and revisit key decisions. This enables players to explore narrative branches, or even save their favourite characters. There is also a 'Survivor Mode' with no safety nets where every death is permanent.

Directive 8020 launches on May 12, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It is available to pre-order on these platforms. At launch, it will support single-player and couch co-op for up to five players, with online multiplayer arriving in a free post-launch update.

Very excited for this one. I have really enjoyed The Dark Pictures and other Supermassive games. I also like how they are including the digital deluxe content at no additional cost if you pre-order.

I’m not sure, but it looks like an interesting game. I love AAA games—big, high-quality titles.

If that protagonist does not have a wooden leg and is not bisexual, I'm sorry but pass.

Bad joke aside, the thumbnail says everything you need to know about this game.

You can tell the game will be X's controversy of the week and be forgotten for all time right after.

Save this post.

It's hard to trust them anymore after how they ruined Until Dawn with the PS5 remaster but I will still buy it day 1 lol

Am I being overly targeted by them, but what is up with all of these "horror in space" games?

Is this the new zombie craze?
From a production perspective, you get a naturally limited world, set amount of actors, set of interactions and so on. It's a good constraint to keep scope and cost under control.
