I'm not sure if this goes here, but yeah. My friends dad dropped his DS and broke the power switch. He gave it to me, as he doesn't want it. I have had many DS's in the past, but have never had to repair one. When I slide the switch, it seems as if there is no spring. The DS will charge, but as I can't turn it on, I don't know if it works. Is there any way to cheaply fix the power switch. It is much too old for warranty. I would prefer to not have to open it up, but if I must I will. If it matters the little slider piece is still there on the outside of the DS. I read somewhere about unfolding a paper clip and sticking that in the DS, but I can't find that article again. Even if I could, The slider thing protects the DS's insides. I would really appreciate help. I am not very good at soldering, so I would prefer not to.

From what you described about how it feels like there's no spring inside, you will probably need to replace the switch itself if the plastic piece is intact. Best thing to do first is open it up to see whats exactly the problem is. Just youtube/google some tutorial for that.

Just wanna say, I fixed this. I opened up the ds, and found that it was good, just the sticky out thing on the switch is broken. I removed the slider, and I now can turn it on with a paper clip.

If you can solder, you might be able to add a new power switch and have it work properly again if you can find one online.

Yeah, I have a friend that does lots of work with electronics and can help me desolder the old on and solder a new one on.

Don't worry, my power switch broke literally 2 weeks after buying the console. Mind you, it was for no apparent reason. Never caused me any problems though since despite the fact that it was not "returning", I could still turn on the system.

Those things are made of good wishes and pixie dust - they break really easily and the only real solution is to replace them.

Yeah, the weird thing is, I have had many many DS's and dropped them many times, and they always come out just the same.
