People have been using the controller for more than 10 years across Melee and Brawl and countless Brawl mods. Switching now, just for the WiiU is not an easy adjustment and the WiiU allows 1080p play from the console which cuts out the input lag usually brought on due to the Wii only outputting at 480p through component.

Then it is just a case of "being used to it". The thing is, I played Smash Bros 64 since launch but didn't get Melee (and a GameCube) until a year later, and therefore had 3 years of prior experience using an N64 controller for Smash Bros. Perhaps this resulted in myself not being so married to the GCN pad for anything Smash Bros related?

I've just always liked the Gamecube controller; to me it was the perfect combination of the SNES and N64 controllers.
Ah, well I find the Dpad on the GCN pad very lacking (try playing the Japanese "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" with it) so even the original CC is a great improvement with it's Dpad, not to mention I never owned a SNES so I need a quality Dpad for my SNES VC games.

The CCPro is an improvment over the original CC, but it unfortunately lacks rumble.
I never had a rumble pack on the N64, and I got a Wavebird when I got my GameCube, so I never got attached to rumble. Heck I even turn off rumble on my wiimotes to conserve battery life.

Thing is that Melee was really designed around it and people got used to it. Then Brawl supported it and people got even MORE used to it.

The thing was though, I actually didn't play vanilla Brawl very much at all since I actually don't care for it - I felt that it lacked that arcade feel (or something) that the previous games had - heck I felt something very similar with Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and Zelda TP. So really all I did was complete the single player...and then I pretty much stopped playing. That is, until the Brawl mods got into action, particularly when Brawl Minus, custom textures & model, new stages, and even more so when Custom Music happened (I'm quite the music connoisseur and audio editor, heck it's really all I use my YouTube channel for).

Oh well, it's definitely a preference thing. Oh! Can't believe I forgot but once they GCN games working on WiiU they MUST use CCs right? So the adapter makes the whole thing perfect.

I fully understand that, it was just that even though I mentioned (implying for use with Smash Bros.) the analog shoulder buttons and "being used to the layout", people still acted like I was off my rocker...and yet you're saying those two reasons are really all there is.

...so why the heck did it take us like 20 posts to reach this level of understanding? :wtf:

And yes, it definitely is a preference, especially when I intentionally wanted to use a different controller to psychologically distance myself as much as possible from that disappointing feeling I got from playing vanilla Brawl. (custom music and custom character textures helped a lot with this as well, particularly replacing the "epic opera" music and "real is brown" character & stage textures)

I don't think anybody was saying you were crazy. The technical breakdown is: GC had rumble (unless you had a Wavebird) and analog triggers, whereas the CC/Pro had wireless (kinda, again GC had Wavebird which wins out on this feature). Beyond that, it comes down to subjective preference, so when you were asking for hard, objective reasons and people were responding with entirely subjective reasons, things just went around in circles.

...also, another thing about the original CC, that frakking cord. Whoever thought putting the cord on the bottom was a good idea was an idiot.

Or was a Dreamcast fanboy. :P

Either way, I do have an original CC as well, but I modded my cord to come out the top (removed the springy latch-like button and used the vacant hole for the cord).

But that does remind me, using a Wavebird with such an adapter would be hilarious, kind of like the "yo dawg" meme (wireless in your wireless?). Even better, it'd go perfectly with playing Ocarina of Time + Master Quest via Devolution in the vWii on the Wii U for a truly lawl-worthy chain of...things.

Even better, there's an NES emulator for the N64. Imagine getting that thing running injected into the OoT disc and play LoZ on an NES emulator running on an N64 emulator running from a GameCube title running in Wii mode on a WiiU. You'd have every Nintendo generation except SNES.

CCPro does not have analog triggers, and my question didn't really have anything to do with your issue - I just wanted to understand why people want GameCube controller support so badly since I remember when people didn't even like the controller, and the only thing I could figure out was for the analog shoulder buttons (which the CCPro lacks).

Sheilding in Melee is quite a huge reason as to why GC is preferred. Specifically for Melee though; which is why I brought it up so much. In Melee, the density of your sheild depends on the pressure of your shoulder button inputs. You cannot get that control with a CCPro. Also, the control stick sensitivity, when the GC controller is broken in, also plays a huge factor in how much control you have over your character. It's not the same for Brawl when it comes to this because your controller does not need these criteria for your character to feel right and the sheild system in Brawl is completely different than what it was in Melee; thus, any controller being used for Brawl is fine.

Ah screw it. If I were to make a nice GC->CC adapter cable and sell it for $25 (same price as the other guy is selling them for, but the extension cable will be built in, so it's actually cheaper), how many people would buy them? I'm looking into sourcing parts and trying to find a balance between buying a large enough quantity to get discount rates but not so many that I'll never sell them all. I can't guarantee that I'll have the ID detection bug fixed, but I'll definitely be getting analog triggers working. I tried getting it working this week, but I don't have all of my equipment home with me for the break, so I won't be able to test until early January. But yeah, this is happening. Who wants one? Please only say if you would definitely buy one. I don't have a ton of money on hand, so I really want to nail down a reasonable quantity before I put out a bunch of money.

I would definitely buy 1-5 of these depending on finances at the time they (theoretically) become available. When you say ID detection bug I assume you mean the game recognizing the controller as a CCPro instead of a GC?

I'd definitely grab one if it were able to work on the Wii U with that loader demonstration of a Gamecube game running on it.

The ID bug is that some VC/WW titles will act like there is no CC plugged in and freeze at the "You need the CC to play" screen. You have to unplug and re-plug the cable, then it will work. This doesn't seem to happen in any homebrew titles, and I don't know of any disc games that have the issue, so it's weird, but unplugging/replugging always works. I just bought some new equipment with my Christmas money, so I'll try to debug it, but it's not a big deal.

As for Devolution on the WiiU, it's already been proven to work, but Wiimote support has not been added yet, and it will all depend on whether or not tueidj can come up with a satisfactory anti-piracy scheme for the WiiU (or if he decides that 2 generations back is far enough to not bother anymore, though that is unlikely). So we're all just hoping and waiting. Thankfully, he has shown that he's still interested in this stuff, as evidenced by his proof-of-concept video, and the fact that he was the one that discovered the new IOS exploit used by the latest HBC installer.

I would be interested in purchasing at least one cable to start. To my knowledge (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), nobody yet has any information as to what controllers Smash Bros WiiU will support. Until we have this information, the possibility that Wii Classic Controller support may be axed in favor of the new Wii U Pro Controller will keep me from buying more of these adapters. Thank you qwertymodo!

Based on the wide range of controllers supported by Brawl, it would be an awful step backwards for them to drop CC support (though I would guess that they would likely not support analog triggers under the assumption that people would be more likely to use the CCPro than the original CC). Nonetheless, your hesitation is understandable.

I would actually be willing to get four. I actually ordered a couple from the guy you mentioned earlier, but each one of the two units he sent gave me a different problem: one had a bad connection and it damaged the pin on the adapter, and the other is giving out a crazy input as soon as I plug the GameCube controller.

If you go ahead and make them, I'd be very happy if you could give me a holler in my email - I would totally be willing to get a set of four. I'd just beg for you to send them with a customs declaration saying they are a gift of less than $20, because they put crazy taxes on videogame goods here in Brazil.

Have you tried plugging in the GC controller before plugging into the Wiimote? The microcontroller might be getting confused because it starts running as soon as you plug into the Wiimote, but doesn't have a controller on the other end to properly communicate with. Not sure, but it's a thought. And yes, I would be happy to declare them as a gift for customs. If I were to describe them as "electronic adapters" would that cause any issues? I've never done international shipping before, so I'll have to figure out all that stuff, but I'll definitely be willing to ship internationally.

Another question, for people wanting an adapter: would you prefer the cables to be as long as possible, or shorter? Basically, the GameCube side of the cable is 6 feet long and the Wiimote cable is about 3 feet, so personally, I'd like to make them even lengths and end up with a cable about 6 feet long, but I could go as long as 9, or shorter, if people prefer that... remember that the cable on your controller is already, what, 6 feet for the official cables? So a really long cable might be annoying, I don't know. It's a matter of preference, and I'll leave it up to you.

Huh, what do you know. I could swear I had done that and some other permutations of connections... but now it seems like it worked.

I would still be interested in the adapters, though, because of the analog triggers.

Edit: I think I know what I was doing wrong. I was disconnecting at the GameCube port, instead of directly at the adapter. Duh.
