Upon hearing the news about the 3ds hacked my mind immediately jumped to the idea of a 3ds version of dslinux. During earlier attempts I had noticed it's possible to use dslinux as a bootloader for other linux operating systems but I was wondering what all of you think of the 3dslinux idea. My main question is what do you think is possible? I'm thinking the 3ds has the specs to play things such as youtube and lower res consoles like the N64 but my main worry for the idea is the lag.

Thoughts?

It's inevitable, when homebrewed software is available to a system, one of the first applications run is a Linux kernel, or if it's not powerful enough, a UNIX-type system.
See: Xbox-Linux, Dreamcast Linux, PS2Linux, GC-Linux, Xell (XEnon Linux Loader), PS3Linux and the RSX/hypervisor jailbreak, Wii Linux, DSLinux, PSP-Linux, so on and so forth.

What's the advantages of putting Linux on a console? I never bothered with my Wii

For the 360 it's vital.
You can dump your fusesets (which make up your CPUkey) and your DVD key.

XeLL is only the loader and not an OS itself ;]
But yes XeLL does boot linux on a 360.

A critical part of any functioning Linux system. :)
I remember when the King Kong exploit first happened, first thing shown running was Linux.

Indeed.
However it's still not the actual OS itself ;p
It just boots any .elf / vmlinuz etc file

Not quite.
It was a screen saying that Linux was coming soon ;p

I think it would be cool to run Linux on the 3DS, but how useful it would be... I have no clue.

Edit: I bet it would make a decent portable air crack machine. A good device for cracking Wifi on the down low...

I wonder if private investigators do stuff like that? (I know it's completely off topic but the idea kind of fascinates me...)
