Mojang, the makers behind millions-selling indie game Minecraft, have unveiled some footage from their new spaceship game, 0x10c, via Mojang head Markus "Notch" Persson's Youtube page.

While the footage is still essentially a test, it shows off some of the graphics of the game and... some other stuff. It's essentially test footage so there's not much to see.

There's not much to say on the game other than some info released a while ago. 0x10c is an sandbox sci-fi game where each player heads a spaceship. One of the main features is that each game will feature an emulated 16-bit CPU that players can program on.

No other info was released, but there surely will be more to come.

'That's not a soldier - That's a Spy !!!!'

Hmm, using a TF2 model in game... seems to indicate it'll be compatible with those type of models....which are Steam based.
Possibility this'll be released on Steam in the future ??
I think Notch is hinting that he is using the GldSrc engine in this game.

It's definitely not the same model, just a model designed to look like the TF2 model.

Also I do find it funny that Notch will blatantly use Valve IPs like TF2 but still refuses to put his game on Steam and says he fears a future with Steam dominance in the PC market.

Doesn't look too interesting...at all. But I guess it didn't look like it was trying to be interesting, just show what it was.

There don't appear to be any windows in the spaceship (judging from all the laser shots into space).

...That can't be too healthy for the crew.

is this an shooter or a hacker or shacker?
i didnt get it but then again its an art test. not bad graphics... for notch

It's some sandbox starship game. I wanna say like FTL but I haven't played it.

The graphics are rather unacceptable though. Minecraft looked bad because it was his first game without as much budget. He's made millions now, there's no excuse for a game to look as shit as this. This isn't even an art style, it's crap.

you will be able to program in the game on the in-game computer? i wonder what the extend of that will be. will we see tetris, mario, and other games written to be played within this game?

-another world

Yeah, that's what they say. You can do anything from make it regulate specific ship functions to making it able to play games.

It's a neat concept but I'm still very weary. Minecraft was a "neat concept" but it felt very hollow in practice.

Totally agree. I think he wants to reach everyone hence making the graphics simple enough for ANYONE to play the game. Plus he is probably thinking of porting it to the android again hence with lower graphics.

What I don't understand is how he thinks he'll sell this to most people. Minecraft was accessible and fun for pretty much everyone who knew how to operate a computer, (or it COULD be at least, not everyone liked it) but if this is mostly about programming only a very specific niche will be interested in it.

I don't think he really wants to sell it to most people. I mean think about it, he's pretty much set for life, he can make whatever niche game he wants now without worrying about it being successful enough to keep him afloat.

That's unacceptable even for Android standards nowadays, sorry.

So-far this looks poopie on the graphics end of things. As far as the design is concerned... this ship looks... incredibly... plain and empty.

Minecraft had the advantage of a build-it-yourself world - if it was plain and boring, it was the player's fault - all a matter of the player's imagination. This on the other hand is just plain because it was designed to be plain.

The lack of windows was already noted, so I won't comment on that. :P

And I still have no interest in the game. It certainly looks smoother than I expected, but what is there to do so far? He spent a lot of time working on the CPU before fleshing out any concrete game ideas, it'll likely be a while before the game has any sort of substance to draw people in.

I see you're almost entirely unfamiliar with the concept of computer game development? Those fancy screenshots you look at when most companies present games in progress are from a LOT further on in development than this pre-alpha thing, and usually doctored up anyways.

and says he fears a future with Steam dominance in the PC market.
Did he actually say that? Not that I'm surprised, I just see a lot of bullshit flung whenever Notch comes up.

C'mon, Rydian - this game has been in development for quite some time now. Even if the engine looks "fine for a pre-alpha", it falls short of expectations, not to mention that the art design so far, the very thing this trailer was supposed to show, as I previously stated, looks boring and poopie. I won't get into the "Notch" discussion since I think he's a bit of a narcissistic douche, but what I'm going to say is that so far, I'm not really interested in the game outside of the "16-bit computer you can program for!" factor.

^That's GoldSrc.

Not interested in this, at all. Especially not after seeing Star Citizen.
But then again, this is an alpha, I guess my mind may change.

Who gives a shit if the game doesn't look that good visually?

As long as it's fun, I couldn't care less.
