  • 13 million: The number of hours of play-time that games in Plus' Instant Game Collection (the batch of free games offered to Plus subscribers) in the two months after the IGC was launched in early June.
  • 12 million: The number of Trophies players unlocked in Instant Game Collection games in those two months.
  • 93%: The percentage of players who intend to renew the service, according to a Sony survey (as long you renew Plus, you keep access to the games in the IGC; if you cancel, you lose access).
  • 97%: the percentage of Plus users who tell Sony's survey-takers that they're extremely happy with the survey (ticking one of the top two boxes, or options, when answering how happy they are with the service). Sony says this is up 50% over a prior survey, from presumably before the IGC began.

(can't find another source at all.)

In all honesty, I don't see why people don't have PlayStation Plus. Considering what you get, it simply makes paying 50 bucks a year for Xbox Live unjustifiable.

I don't have Playstation Plus.
I have 60kb/s internet max. Playstation Plus is useless without a fast connection to download the things. When it'll take you over 3 weeks just to download one of the free games, it's just useless.

That's why some people don't have Playstation Plus. If I had faster internet, I'd probably at least try it, tbh.

I'd rather a better online service as opposed to some extra crap i'd never play/use.

Xbox live is for playing with people and friends.
PS Plus is for playing with yourself.

I've played online with some people and have had no hiccups. Not to mention with apps like Netflix and such, you dont need to pay extra, so that's another bonus to PSN.

I'm pretty much speaking entirely from an online community perspective.
Not only is the XBL community gigantic by comparison, but there are more features, and online services are honestly just more streamlined. Not to mention everyone has a mic (not always a good thing I guess...).

PSN Plus and XBL offer two entirely different services. XBL is all about online gaming, it's basically the VIP experience. PSN Plus is more for bonuses and some perks. Not really all that comparable tbh.

I love my Plus, had it going non-stop since they gave out that free month from the blackout. As far as Xbox goes, yeah overall the service may be better and more streamlined, but its not like the connection speeds are faster. (Plus the damn thing is filled to hell and back with ads, even if your a Gold member)

Anyone who avidly plays a PS3 and/or buys games off of PSN should get it, just the money i saved from discounts tends to cover the subscription by itself (Plus there have been quite a few games I was planning to buy that we got free instead).

Despite not being a Plus owner myself, there's no denying the value in many of those free PS3 games. If you haven't played these games then the monthly fee is more than worth it. In this regard I view Plus and XBLG as very different beasts with different approaches. I think what will be most interesting is what Sony and Microsoft do next generation and how they have learned from not only their own actions but each others.

I hope Playstation Plus goes into their next generation of consoles. It's a fantastic service, and hell, you pick up a brand new PS3, and pay 15 bucks for 3 months and you already have a library of games to get right off the bat.

And let's be honest, the games they're coming out with, they're not cheap crappy games either, they're amazing games, LBP2, Hard Corps Uprising, Borderlands, Walking Dead, Virtua Fighter... And next month NA users might be getting Red Dead Redemption too.

Well yeah, if you HAVE to pay to be able to get online at all, of course XBL is gonna be all about online gaming lol. Other than that, there's literally very few to no perks, just a few crappy to decent sales each week, and the occasional events. Hardly any of the Gold features are noteworthy that cant be done on any other device, or make it a must buy. I like the Beacon/Party systems and such, but it still doesn't justify the price for me.

Also, I don't really see how the PS3's community isn't "Gigantic" either, if anything, its better, because its much more diverse.

And to Shadow, I'd be pretty surprised if the stuff did not carry over. And now that they are adding Vita in November, it's going to just get even better and better. I'm sitting on so many games in my digital backlog its insane, so I never really have to worry about being bored :)

Same. I have so many still, all of them in fact, that I haven't touched yet, too big of a catalog lol. But it just means that I'll have more games to choose from if I ever get bored.

If by diverse you mean barren, then we could probably agree. Either way you're not using the word 'diverse' properly at all since it really doesn't fit it any context involving XBL/PSN.

Was going to retort the other comments but they were so thick with ignorance I accidentally deleted them from the quote before replying. Oops.

I want to purchase PS+ but I'm hoping that it will go on sale in the next few months.

At Best Buy starting on the 5th i think, if you buy their @Gamer magazine, you can get 15$ off a 1 year subscription of Plus (Also works for Gold too).

As far as buying at a retailer goes, thats the cheapest I have seen so far. You could always probably find cheap on Ebay or something too from a good seller, I have brought them occasionally when the Subway promo's happen.

The community is more diverse, it doesn't flock from one game to the next like Xbox Live members do. You can play games like Journey, there will be people there. You can play games like Mass Effect 3, Uncharted, Rock Band Blitz and all that, and there will still be tons of people there where you won't have trouble finding people. Xbox Live, everybody just flocks from one game to the next.

Seriously, this dude. I can easily find someone to play almost any game with on PSN, very few games are dead, especially thanks to Playstation Plus reviving the communities of games by giving them out. Personally as someone who loves RPG's and Fighting Games, PS3 trumps Xbox every day of the week. Maybe if your only into FPS's and Sports games, Xbox would be your go to console, but PS3 is much more diverse, plain and simple.

You ought to stop trying to insult others and actually do a bit of research first, because the amount of fanboy in your post is blinding.

Oh, right, I forgot that Xbox Live users form a singularly focused, collective hive mind. Duh!

No no no, I will admit that there are still some players who play other games, but it's not as good. I mean, let's be honest, for Xbox, next halo comes out? Everybody plays on that until the next CoD comes out, then every plays on that until the next CoD comes out and then the other 2 games are left with a barren player base. Where as on the PSN, sure there might not be as many people playing the next best FPS, but the players are more spread out across games.

A large chunk of people flock, but plenty still stick around older games. Assuming their online isn't garbage anyway.
I dunno these days, but up until last year at least, Counter Strike for the XBOX still had people playing it. An original xbox game. Plenty of people play other games though. I know I can still find people in older games, off the top of my head Castlevania HoD is one I sometimes have a go at. There's always the initial rush when a game first comes out, but then games settle into their community. The 360 community is large enough that it can afford to have a large amount of flocking and still populate other games just fine. At least, i've never had a problem with an older games community, unless the game itself was unpopular, or its online was trash.

I'm part of the PC master race. It's just obvious as all hell.
I play my PS3 more often these days if I do slink onto a console, yet still keep myself subbed to XBL all year round in case I want to play an online game. Why?
because it's superior. I tried to get into using my PS3 to online game to save some cash, but it just did not work out at all. I couldn't stand the drop in quality. For me, the pennies you pay for XBL (it's dirt cheap, I can literally afford a year of live from a day of work, easily) is WELL worth it if you're looking for a dedicated online gaming service.

How is Xbox Live superior though? Just because you don't have problems with it, doesn't mean others don't. Just because you have problems with PSN, doesn't mean others do. There is no real evidence or proof to say that Xbox Live is superior.
