Why does this keep happening? Has it ever worked? Has there ever actually been a good video game based movie?
Mortal Kombat was good.
The following video game to movie adaptions are at least mildly tolerable...
- The ORIGINAL Mortal Kombat. Annihilation had NO right to exist. At all.
- Silent Hill was far from perfect but it's nowhere near as bad as the usual abominations.
- Prince of Persia was actually not too bad at all.
- Final Fantasy Spirits Within is actually a perfectly acceptable sci-fi film, if you simply ignore the 'Final Fantasy' in the title.
- Advent Children Complete may be mostly just flash, but whatever. Barring's Cloud's self-pitying whine it's a good movie.
- The Pokemon films are kinda guilty pleasures, but oddly they do get kinda dark in tone as they go on. Pokemon dying, humans damn near choking things to death, etc. I have all but the latest one (which to my knowledge isn't in English yet anyway) and I actually like them.
The others...wow. They just suck so hard. Whether its...
- The Super Mario Bros Movie, which sucks on SO many levels. It does have a few momentary laughs, but overall it offends my television.
- Mortal Kombat Annihilation failed for so many reasons, such as replacing most of the original cast and being poorly written and plain old bullshit.
- Street Fighter disgraced its source material by having Guile played by a douche with a thick Brussels accent, failing to add in any special effects for the hadoken/shoryuken, and ruining the career of Raul Julia, who acted in that movie to please his children and died before he had a chance to act again
- The less said about Doom, Alone in the Dark, D.O.A's bloody awful casting choices, the Resident Evil franchise (aside from maybe Degeneration) and the absolute joke which I've been unfortunate to discover that is Hero of Time (

trust me, don't watch it,), thebetter.
