Afer reading this article it made me think of something rather interesting. I find the launch price of the WiiU rather fine but what about you guys?
Think it's priced to high? Do you think it'll end in another launch disaster for nintendo?

DISCUSS!!!

I'd rather not pay $50 extra to get my color of choice, some extra pieces of plastic, and a game that'll be put down after a week.

I do like the price of the basic set, though.

slightly newer tech, with stunningly tiny HDD space makes the price more than it should be (the xbox had a 20GB HDD for 50$ more than the premium...and that was in 2005) im guessing all the cost comes from the controller because otherwise for whats barely above tech-wise from what we have had for over 7 years seems overpriced. of course we know they are making money because they never sell the consoles at a loss aside from the 3ds debacle.

will i buy one? not right away, the 3ds burned me far too much for that to happen again, but il get one eventually....its is the only place to play the mario/zelda/metriod/DK..ect games.

Hmmm about £300 is what I was expecting.
I'd rather get the pro set. I really want Nintendo Land and the little extra's, why not!
Didn't realise we had to pay for internet though? So it's going to be like Xbox...I don't like paying to use the internet :(

I find the 2 sets to be really interesting. I like how it completely seperates 2 options for any kind of gamers alike. I can see the basic set being the 'casual set' and the deluxe set being the 'core set'. I find it rather interesting that nintendo is trying this approach. (finally).

I like the fact that Reggie said you can plug in a 3 terabyte drive if you want. At the price of drives coming down this is great for expansion. Means a lot more digital downloads.

This. Especially this. So those that only want the basic set and yet want more memory can easily get a USB flash drive.

the price doesn't faze me, it is reasonable for what is coming in the box. Just the games side of things could be better but with New Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends for starters I won't complain, but on the same note I wont buy one on launch, having paid enough money for a ps3 this year I would rather buy one in the new year

I have to say, though, nice marketing tactics for Nintendo.
Although the extras in the deluxe set do make a good excuse for the higher price by themselves, I personally like the look of the black one and would be tempted to pay more for it.
Also, the box they come in is enough even for someone who usually doesn't care about color to be subtly turned off from the white one and go for the more expensive black one at the last minute when seeing the two next to eachother on the shelf.

The black box just screams BUY ME, while the white box says to me "look how cool the black box looks"

It'll be $100 cheaper by the time homebrew is running on it, so i think $200 for the premium will be a good price when that happens. until then, ive got a pc and a backlog of games i wanted to play so long my GRANDKIDS will be playing them for me.

I can wait.

Actually, it SHOULD still be able to run old Wii homebrew right off the bat with a disk exploit like the Smash Stack. No homebrew channel but you could always try loading something like MMM or PostLoader from it and see what it lets you do.

I kinda doubt, though, that any WiiU specific homebrew will be out for a while yet.

I doubt that any of the current disc exploits will work with the Wii U. Who knows how a new disc exploit would fare after it is released, though.

As for the price, I think that it is a good price. The only complaint that I might have is the storage size, but from what I have read, you can also use an external hard drive.

A person would have to be supremely cheap and poor to think $300 is a high price, just sayin'. $350 isn't even bad. Especially not as a launch price, that's fantastic.

The tablet controller is what gets me. Holy fucking god is that thing expensive for a controller. Theoretically the console itself is only sold for maybe $130 because the controller is like $170 of the cost. Brilliant. Well that's Yen > $ for the controller. Probably more like $150. Still, that would mean it's as expensive as the console itself...which is just wrong on so many levels.

The controller is most likely a lot cheaper than it's sold for. Nintendo does make some sizable profits off of peripherals, I don't think people always realize that.
