Well depends. in my case,i like the smaller and i prefer original 3DS instead of XL which you cannot put in the pocket.

I just traded in for an XL a few days ago. I wasn't going to originally, but I got tired of the cramps with the original (since I have big hands), so I figured I might as well.

I'm actually very impressed... not only does it strangely fit in my pocket just as comfortably for whatever reason, but the aesthetic changes are very welcomed. The larger screens are also a huge bonus, and I'm honestly not bothered by the slightly greater jaggies in the visuals. And I'll tell you this: I'm not missing the terrible dpad, shoulder buttons, sharp corners, or finger print-begging surface of the original at all.

Id vote 3DS. the XL is more expensive and bigger. lol thats it.
