And besides, this actually looks interesting. Did you read the detailed thing linked in the OP? It seems like they are at least trying something new, and it may turn out to be really good.
But I like the turn-based combat, it's one of the selling points and FFXIII's paradigm system was anything but boring. There are plenty of excellent button-bashing action adventure games for people who like that kind of thing without turning Final Fantasy into something it's not. If it's all about dumbing it down to appeal to a larger demographic why not just turn it into a fucking FPS and have done with it?
its great that the battle system is real time now, good! I wish that square enix would instead make final fantasy 7 sequels, they would make more money. they should start on KH 3, I know their focusing on Versus but c'mon!!!! 3 final fantasy 13 games released before Versus is released???? WTF is that?!?!?!!? 5+ years in development, Versus better be phenomenal.
and last thing I wanna say is KH 3 better be a freakin' ps3 exclusive. I don't want them wasting extra time.
Hell yeah, the problem I had with 13 was the battle system was too fast paced for proper turn based. It's nice that we'll be able to play at that speed and actually retain a level of control.
although hell even a system like 12s would have been enough. Just give me some god damn control.
The world has a time limit...
But people still use trains and go to work casually.
Seems legit.
What exactly happens when this clock runs out?
I think they have assessed what went wrong with both games and made a smashing one from the best of both, I see alot of 'different' things coming out of this. The game seems somewhat focused. I like the world changing idea, but I'd hate to be trapped in a house when someone locks their door and goes to sleep, I'd consider just killing them :/
My main question is the characters.
Square have killed and crystalised every single main female character in the XIII universe so far.
Sazh, Noel and Hope must still be at large somewhere and it seems snow is still lost in time o.O
If you only use lightning, I would like to see some of the favourites of the series more than what we got in XIII-2
It has to be good, for the last of the XIII trilogy I expect alot and look forward to it definitely. They have so much feedback to work with relating to the past 2 games that its almost a certainty that this will be the best of them by far.

I still own Final Fantasy 13 for my Xbox and I absolutely hate it which put me off on the second one. I really don't know how people keep buying these games is it because 13-2 is actually good?
They are changing it up.
Gosh paar read and watch the info at least before you commenty ;O;
Also, turned based is can still be adapted and used efficiently.
And maaan turned based isnt outdated. If the masses had their way every game would be the same o.o
My main point here is that people have become increasingly intolerant to different types of gameplay.
For some reason everyone loves games where you are grossly overpowered and running into masses of crap spamming buttons.
That and FPS's which also suck.
Turn based still has credibility and will always be cool in my eyes, Taking FF away from turned based will be making it something its not.
And they already have KH for that
I want a Final Fantasy set in pseudo-medieval times and with the active time battle system. In my opinion the first six are way better than the last seven. Well technically more like...last ten?

More like the last 5 (starting with X-2), but otherwise I agree with you completely. I wish they would go back to the roots and make them like they used to.

Wait wait wait... FPS games are for power fantasies but turn based ones aren't?
You do realize a big part of turn based RPGs is just breaking the system.
I don't think turn based has to die, it still has its place, but for big budget RPGs like this, it just feels out of place. It was meant for an era where you couldn't do much with action in a RPG setting. The most action/RPGs you got were like Zelda-esque combat. Nowadays you have the tech do so much more but we're still rooted in turn-based combat.
I just think their main series needs to move on to something a bit more involved. FFXII was a step in the right direction but not enough.
It doesn't have to be Dynasty Warriors here. When people see "action game" they immediately assume it'll be some button spammer like God of War. If Japanese gaming is known for anything, it's for making fantastic action games and action systems. I would even accept an adapted, better version of Kingdom Hearts sorta combat, or for bigger and better, Dragon's Dogma.
There's still a lot of talent at Square Enix, and with enough dedication, they can make an ARPG that's still true to the series roots but isn't beating you over the head with senseless button mashing.
Well that's a fucking awful way to introduce your game. Not that I don't like happy endings but you shouldn't start off by going "Don't worry it'll have a happy ending". Kinda ruins any suspense.
Another point of interest:
Lightning Returns is World Driven, meaning players have to consider how they interact with the changing world.
Otherwise, I hate time-based games where they're like "Oh you have X days to complete this." Majora's Mask, for example. I shouldn't have to rush to enjoy my game or be forced to replay it because of a dumb timer.
The combat system is at least moving away from the boring-as-shit turn based stuff. Thank god.
Hope will give guidance to Lightning via wireless com.
