While game streaming and cloud gaming aren't exactly brand new, very few companies have tapped into this new technology. However, it looks like big time developer/publisher Square Enix is jumping in with their new service, Core Online.

Core Online is a free-to-play service that lets you play a number of Square Enix titles for free from your browser. Users can find a game to play a choose a level to play from it and either watch an ad, pay $.50 to skip the ad and go onto the next level, or pay for a full game purchase.

The service is just starting but right now you can play Hitman: Blood Money and Mini Ninjas Adventures. However, Square Enix has plans to bring Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Tomb Raider Underworld, and Gyromancer to the service.

Damn, here I thought it'd be some flash or java-based portal. I was going to try it out, but...

"To run the game you need to install the Square Enix Secure Launcher"
Not that I don't trust them, the EULA is actually really bare-bones and standard...

I just don't feel like loading up the system with yet more shit needed to access demos.

Online availability of demos like this is an interesting (and welcome) concept though. Just don't care to try it now.

Whatever, I couldn't Core less. *rimshot*

Seriously though, this is a pretty interesting direction for the company to take. I'll definitely have to give it a shot one of these days.

Does this service have x-input (360 controller) support?

EDIT: Apparently this service isn't exactly a cloud service in the purest of sense. You till have to partially download and play the game off of your local machine. In other words, if you have a shit computer, don't expect to play any of these games. This kinda defeats the reason why OnLive is so awesome. Oh well... nice try Square Enix! :)
