So, does this thing play GB and GBC games natively or will it require an emulator? Also, anyone know if this thing will play Mother 3? I had an SP with an EZ Flash IV, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in my house.
K101 is hardware clone GBA SP. So you do not need to install any emulator like you did on Dingoo Aa320 or other retro handhelds. It plays GB and GBC games natively like you play on original one. The different is that you need to download the games to the TF card. Then plug the TF to K-card. I think you can take K-card like a super flash card. It is so easy to play games with this device. The most importance is that it have a high compatibility on GBA games.

Cool! BTW, since it has a real time clock, I guess no more patching Pokemon games, eh? But, it still won't connect to the Gamecube with the K-Card I assume(for Pokemon XD and Pokemon Colosseum)
Correct, although if you have a DS flashcart and a DS Phat or Lite, you can temporarily put your save onto an actual cart to do the trade, then rip the save back onto the MicroSD. Alternatively, send me a PM, and if you have a specific Pokemon you want to send from your own memory card, send me the GC save as well.

Hi guys, is this a typo?

"K101 uses AUO high difinition screen- 3 inches with resolution: 960x480"

That's a pretty high resolution...I guess the GBA will play in double-rez?

One other thing:

At first I thought the K101 would have perfect GBA compatibility (as if you're playing a real GBA), but when I read this review I'm not so sure anymore:

http://gbatemp.net/topic/332120-k1-gba-sp/

I don't remember my Dingoo A320 having the issues mentioned in the review (in Rayman, Zelda, etc.) -- can anyone confirm if the latest firmware for the K1 still has these issues? I would like to know how the Dingoo's latest GBA emulator compares to this device.

Cheers,
Tom

1) The GBA resolution is 240x160, so with black bars on the side, the game runs at triple res on the K101.
2) The K-Card's compatibility is better than any emulator for any system (including PC), and the issues mentioned are the ONLY known bugs in ANY game. If you're only going for GBA games, the K1(01) GBA is a much better choice than a Dingoo.

You are correct. That has to be a mistake.
960x480 is a 2:1 ratio, which is absurdly wide. The K1 has a 320x240 4:3 screen and the GBA had a 240x160 3:2 screen.
The images on the K1GBASP site clearly show a 4:3 screen:
k101screen.jpg

It is possible that the screen has a weird pixel aspect ratio (different from screen aspect ratio) but that would mean an incredibly high pixel density. It would be comparable to that of a iPhone 4s. Of course, the fact that the K1 is using a 320x240 screen is based on price and availability so if said screen was cheaper it *could* be possible.

It has been noted before that K1GBASP is just a distributor and doesn't have much more experience with the product than we do here. I think this is a case of that. Also definition has been misspelled.

It does get more complicated though. Since AUO is a leading TFT screen manufacturer I did a search for "TFT 960x480" to see if I could find anything. There are items advertised (mostly cameras) as having "3in HVGA TFT color monitor (960x480)" which would fit the bill.

Then again HVGA screens are defined as 480×320 3:2, 480×360 4:3, 480×272 ~16:9, or 640×240 8:3. Optimally the K101 screen would be 480x320 and use pixel doubling to maintain the GBA aspect ratio. If the screen actually is HVGA and the images on the site are accurate then it will likely be 480x360 4:3.

Still, if I had to bet, I would say that it is the same 320x240 screen that the K1 has.

No, I think the screen used on K101 is better than K1. I will compare these two devices once I got the K101 prototype.

2) The K-Card's compatibility is better than...

that statement is a bit misleading. the k-card is simply an interface device. it allows the k1 to read data off the microsd card. it has nothing to do with compatibility. what determines the compatibly is the SoC and its firmware. roms running on the k1 devices are running on actual hardware within the SoC. this is the fundamental difference between these devices and EVERYTHING else currently on the market. however, the SoC firmware is not yet perfect as we have all seen. while the devices k1gba.com are selling are fully upgradable, there has yet to be an update. only time will tell if the issues can be fixed with a firmware update or if the SoC is flawed in some way. however, based on past updates that addressed game compatibility, i would wager that software updates will address all ROM compatibility issues. homebrew may be another thing entirely.

Here are more details on K101:

The mother board of K101:

Pay attention on the d-pad and X,Y,A,B buttons. You will find the manufacture had added "Brush carbon film" to Conductive rubber key contacts( I am sorry. I translate these technical names directly from Google translation. I hope it can help you understand.)

And here is what Dingoo/ Gemei A330's key contacts:( Like most retro handhelds in China, A330 do not use the technical of "Brush carbon film" to make the key contacts more sensitive.)- Thus, D-pad and buttons controls on K101 will be more sensitive and easy to control.

How K101 looks while connecting with headphone, multi-link and TV-out cable? Check the picture as below:

The battery that K101 used:( It is very easy to replace it with another normal one once the battery is defective.)

We will get back one unit prototype and will take some video on it. More details will be available soon.

@[member='ruilong']: is the resolution definitely 960 x 480? the screen doesn't look to be in a 2:1 aspect ratio.

@pixelelated, yes. The resolution is 960 x 480 and the screen size is 3 inch 4:3. The driver of LCM is written by Maxzhou. I am sorry that I do not have enough knowledge to explain the this technology in more details. All of these information about screen, you can check here( I translate it into English for your referance): http://translate.goo...cn/p/1769556961

This is Maxzhou's personal technical page, you guys can check the latest news for K101 and K1 here: http://translate.goo...Fkw%3Dmaxzhou88

I will translate some interesting threads into English here.

I think this device will become more beautiful after we selected the best logo design for it. The name of this device is" Revo K101". The new logo will be printed both on the outer package and the device.

I will let you know the final logo( I did got some good logos these days. But I am still waiting for the best one out.). :P

@pixelelated, yes. The resolution is 960 x 480 and the screen size is 3 inch 4:3.
Hopefully someone who pre-ordered can verify this. Considering that this is the resolution of the iPhone, I'm a little suspicious that this is actually the resolution given the aspect ration shown in the videos.

I'll definitely buy one of these next week.

The manufacture had tried many case for this K101- it has new name now- Revo K101 before they produce it. Finally, they selected the Gemei A330's case because its case and buttons designs are the most suitable for holding to play games. At the same time, they make some adjustment on this case. For example, they make a space for k-card slot which you can see from the pictures. It makes k-card fit very well. The most important thing is that the hand feeling is better while playing games. I know it is hard to explain here but I will show you later in the video.

At the same time, Revo K101 will have its special logo once it is out. The one you see is without the logo of "Revo k101". I will post the latest pictures of it once it is available. It will be more beautiful.
