Anyone here like the TV series "Fringe"?

Honestly, I just finished watching the 3rd episode. I've seen more, but I decided to watch them over for consistency and understanding. I just saw something that blew my mind (not that the show doesn't do that regularly). In the end of the 3rd episode, it shows a data transfer using a corpse as a disk. I find that to be really cool since @Gahars posted an article on the usage of human DNA as a storage medium. The show on a whole is completely mind boggling. If you agree, post it up and spoiler tag anything of relevance. I want to finish the show without detracting from my WTF moments.

I watched the first couple of series but went on holiday as it started airing and have not caught up with the most recent one since. If I had to generate a complaint it would be that as it goes on it gets more invested in the mythology it creates to the point where episodes might not stand by themselves; something I usually cry out for but there is still a niggling doubt that it might not have been the best route. Of course with J.J. Abrams in the mix (even if mainly as executive producer) I probably should have anticipated it.

I doubt I will remember it in twenty years (up from my usual ten years) other than remembering "oh yeah didn't a US free to air network sci fi show bordering on hard sci fi at points make it more than 4 series deep?".

I'm not sure what you mean by the comment:

Of course, I'm no so far in the series yet. Really the things I like in the show is similar to the reasons I liked the Mass Effect series. The basics of the show are grounded in reality (or close to it) and then it takes it up a notch or two directly to the sci fi aspect. I'll probably agree with you on that last part though. Not because the show wasn't good, or well written but because I just don't remember stuff very well. From what I see, the show is pretty well tied together. When compared to LOST at the very least. Lost was just a jumbled mess. Many questions could be answered by realizing "it's a magical motherfucking island bitch". In Fringe, most of the questions you may have can be explained by scientific theory taken to ridiculous levels, or "Fringe" levels outside the realm of normal science.

I watched to the end of season 4. Thought it was pretty good. I haven't bothered with it past season 4. I thought they ended it well at the end of 4 and would probably just be stretching the series beyond that.

Rephrasing..... whether for good or ill much of TV writing seems to work along the lines of you can either watch an episode as a standalone episode and have it work and/or pick up watching anywhere and eventually get the gist (see soaps and most longer running police procedurals) but if I plonked someone that otherwise enjoyed sci fi early on in series 3 of Fringe they would probably be lost and if I drip fed it week by week as opposed to DVD style then it would be even worse.

By similar token I really dislike "previously on" for sci fi shows and consider it some of the worst possible exposition a show can do.

Don't know why actually because it has everything that I like in it: science, mysteries, somthing that seemed to me like a good plot (can't say for sure since I only saw 11 episodes)
Maybe I'll start watching it again after I finished watching all my anime.

If I had to watch all the anime in my list, I'd never have enough time to do anything else. I just finished catching up on Naruto/Shippuden, and I'm about 250 episodes into Bleach. Next on my list is One Piece from episode 1. That's about a years (or two) worth of anime for any normal person if I watched all the episodes from start to finish without skipping. I want to start Sword Art Online, and I have several animes on my watch and wait list.

I had a friend who really didn't care for the first few episodes, but apparently it gets really, really good once it manages to build up its mythology.

I think that its fifth season will be its last. All considering, that's a good amount of time for a show with such a fringe fanbase. Alright, that was awful even by my standards.

Yeah well it's exactly the same for me, except that I've only seen 75 episodes of Bleach...
