So I have a USB HDD that I got my Wii games backed up on, but there's plenty of space so I figured I can backup my GC games as well. In order to do this, do I have to split the HDD into 2 partitions? If so, what format should the GC half be, and what is the best procedure of making a WBFS and FAT32\NTFS HDD?

You could just make it 1 partition. Make it FAT32 with 32kb cluster size. Use EaseUS partition master for this. For the Wii games they'll have to be WBFS/WBF1 files in a folder called wbfs. For gamecube games just follow this guide. http://gbatemp.net/topic/329628-how-to-play-gamecube-games-off-a-usb-hdd/

Though I suppose since your games are already on there you can't format it without losing everything. Hopefully you have enough space on a second drive so you can move em back and forth. Otherwise just do two partitions.

I run my wii games and GC games off the same HDD. Format FAT32. Wii games go in the wbfs folder on the root. Put cube games anywhere you want and choose the path for them. USB loader GX will display both. Wii Backup Manager will convert your Wii ISO's into wbfs files.

Wouldn't Fat32 mean I can't store games like Metroid Prime Trilogy which I believe is a dual layered dvd?
No, it'll be fine. Just be sure that your wbfs converter splits it up. You'll get multiple files like this.

Metroid.wbfs ~4Gb
Metroid.wbf1 ~4Gb

Just put those into the wbfs folder and it'll work just fine.

You can also make 2 partitions:
First Fat32 (active) for homebrew, roms, nands, GC games
Second NTFS fo wii games (no need to split big files)
I used that setup for years with no issues so far
but if you don't mind splitting files just 1 fat32 partition is enough
:)

Also, if you currently have a WBFS partition, you can convert it to FAT32 without losing data or reformatting by running a script made by PsyBlade IIRC. It was called wbfs2fat.py or something. It's a good idea to do this because there are several possible problems with WBFS. One of them is that if you lose some data due to corruption, you won't be able to recover your other files.
EDIT: Here is the link: http://gbatemp.net/t...320-wbfs2fatpy/

I am having problems with putting my wii games on the device. I am using a terabyte that was formatted to FAT32 with the 32kbs cluster size, I can put some of the games onto my terabyte, but when I try to put some WBFS files onto the terabyte my computer says that there isn't enough space for the file, I have over 900GB of unused space and the files are only 4GB-5GB does anyone know how to fix the problem?

Sounds like your trying to copy everything in windows. In which case it will not let you put a file bigger then 4gb on the fat32 drive no matter how much space is free. The 4gb file limit size is because of the fat32 format.

Instead use wiibackup manager to transfer the games to the fat32 drive. It will automatically split any files over 4gb into 2 or more files and keep them together in the same folder. Games will still play like normal and there's nothing you need to do.

thank you for letting me know that. I was about ready to bang my head against a wall, I will grab wiibackup manager and use it that way. you are a life saver (or is it game saver?)

Hello all.
Was given an old Wii and I'd love to be able to play some old gamecube files I've got on my pc.
I have no idea how to do this.
Is there a guide for dummies?
I managed to get HomeBrew installed no problem.
I even managed to set up an external drive for wii games.
So how do I set up a drive for both wii and GC on the same drive?
I tried putting my wii games in a wbfs folder and gamecube games in game folder.
I can find my wii games but not my gamecube games...
Help a noob out.

Hello.

I have everything set up on my wii perfectly except for one problem that I have run in to. I have a 32gb USB flash drive formatted properly to FAT32 (32kb cluster size) and it runs both Wii and Gamecube games fine from CFG USB loader. I used Nintendont so I can use the Wii Motion plus/Classic Controller setup.

I needed more space so I formatted my 1tb Seagate external hard drive using the same parameters above. Wii games as before work fine, but now when I run Gamecube games and Nintendont starts up, it loads and then shuts off the system. I try to go straight to Nintendont loader without going into CFG and it says that it cant find a Fat32 drive.

I noticed in EASEUS Partion Manager that there is 7mb unallocated portion of the hard drive that can not be erased or formatted into Fat32. Is this what is causing my hard drive to not work properly? If so, is there a work around to use my larger drive to launch both Wii and Gamecube games through CFG/Nintendont.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

For Nintendo Wii Games
1. Format the HDD to Fat32 using easeus partition manager.
2. Download Wii Backup Manager.
3. Add and transfer the games via Wii Backup Manager. A folder will be created inside the HDD with all the Wii games.
For Gamecube Games
4. Create a new folder inside the HDD and call it "games".
5. Inside the games folder add another folder for the game, for instance G:/games/Zelda.
6.Rename the iso file of the game to "game".
7.Put it inside the games folder. Example G:/games/Zelda/game.iso
8. Download Nintendont and install it in your Nintendo Wii.
9. Open USB loader GX and play the games.
10. Done!

Also if you are using a hard drive the PARTITION will need to be set as "ACTIVE" that was the biggest issue I came across. Just be patient it is possible to play both off the same drive, and off Loader GX Configurable.

Hello,

I have a WDMyBook 4Tb, I need to format it in FAT32 with 32k cluster for use it with wii and GC games. I've tried MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, but it can only format my hd starting from 64k cluster. Then I've tried EaseUS Partition Master 10.8 Free, but when I select FAT32 type, the combo box with all cluster dimension options disappears.

What can I do?

Thanks!

EDIT: ok, I've found guiformat, a small tool for every kind of FAT32 (only) format, and I've used it. Hope this information would be helpful for other users in a future, eventually.

Conclusion: if you need to format a large sized hard drive (1TB, 2TB, 4TB,....) in FAT32 with low sized cluster (16k, 32k), usually necessary for Wii,PS3, 360, ... consoles, you can have troubles with the main tools that the web refers to (EaseUS Partition Master, MiniTool Partition Wizard,....) ==> try guiformat and hope (the larger is the size, the smaller is the probability guiformat would work, as I've understood), or try to find a similar tool, or a working method

So did this work?? Are you now playing both Wii & GC off the WD 4tb? If so, which loader are you using?
