Hi. I've just gotten my wii and have just started learning softmods and homebrew, and I seem to have come across a problem with nothing conclusive coming up on searches...

After installing the 1.9 WiiMC forwarder on my mauifrog sotftmodded wii, I tried running WiiMC 1.20 by forwarding it to usb:/apps/wiimc on my 1TB NTFS Toshiba Stor.e Art 3 USB HDD (on compatibilty list) and it crashes to the black screen with multiple errors.

This however does not happen when I forward it from sd:/apps/wiimc on my SD card and forward it from there.

What could be causing this?

It works fine with SD card but I want to run WiiMC without having the SD card and just with my HDD.

Cheers.

I'm using big HD too, but the diference with yours is the format. I'm not using NTFS, I'm using FAT32. The disadvantage of modern hard disk, when you use it on your Wii is the energy saving mode. When you go back WiiMC after finishing a film, your hd is "sleeping forever", and the only solution is turn off the Wii. With emulators is the same s**t, even worst, because you can't neither chage games if you play a few minutes nor save gameplay.
I've been using HD "alone" for a few months, and now I'll back again to my old 2Gb SD Card.

Try installing the official WiiMC forwarder channel, if you've allready done that, it could be a forwarder bug.

I am having the same issue (with 1Tb NTFS WD drive on compatibility list). I have tried v1.8 and v1.9 of the forwarder and have also tried v1.2.0, v1.2.5 & v1.3.0 of WiiMC (Using new install each time after deleting the directory). I have found some interesting things:
  • If I delete the "" line in Meta.XML I no longer get the black stack dump screen, but instead the wii reboots.
  • When I get the black dump screen WiiMC starts but hangs immediately.
  • Settings.xml file is created on the NTFS drive when screen dump occurs.
  • Will start fine from SD card.
I'm guessing that WiiMC isn't compatible if started on an NTFS partition? Just really want to know if this is the case or is there something I've missed?

You need a fat 32 partition in order to start wiimc from hdd.
You can have the wiimc app on your sd ( fat ) and read the files that you want to play from your ntfs partition without problem.
