8 Women have been disqualified from Olympics 2012 badminton doubles for throwing away their match or better put "not using one's best efforts to win". Two pairs were from South Korea and the other two were from China and Indonesia.
The cause of "playing to lose" was to avoid or substitute the team against whom they would play.

In the women's double match between Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli from China against Jung-Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na from South Korea, the longest rally lasted for four shots in the first game. Either of them would have faced a Chinese Side of Tian Quing and Zhao Yunlei.

Indonesia and South Korea have appealed and a decision would be made before Wednesday's quarter-finals.

Match fixing without payments... just lovely. I remember the man who had kicked the Taekwondo Referee for disqualifying him and he has been banned from the game.

Agree with the decision? or not?

I agree, i watched the news report last night on it and it was so obvious what they were doing and not what the Olympics is about.

When all they were doing was taking turns serving into the net its no wonder they were disqualified.
The clips I saw shown were just horrible. Its one thing to try and play tactically but its another to not even try.

That, do anything to win mentality shouldn't be part of the olympics.
Not every international event should be treated like a war.

Psst. That's North Korea. South Korea is all about K-pop and strict littering laws.

I think That's still North Korea. :|
I do too, But they are eager to spread the word of their development as a democratic peoples republic and we should support their choice :

Apart from their behaviour, i'm glad i didn't pay good money on a ticket for their match.

If i did i'd want a refund.

I understand why they were disqualified, but the big problem was how the tournament was setup, without the round robin system this would not have happened, all those disqualifed were trying to lose so as to be put up against an easier team in the elimination, it is the smart decision if not the most sporting or spectator friendly. This should easily have been noted as a possibilty long before the 2012 Olympics had started.

I did read an article the other day that explained the situation really well - will have to see if I can find it.

yes but follow the rules and dont play like u dont want to. thats a sort of match fixing and going against the purpose of the game. They were warned and yet they didnt resolve themselves. They have no excuse but to say we wanted to win and we blame the tournament setup?

i remember in formula 1, tire change rules changed due to domination from ferrari player/team and it made a difference. these changes were to make the game interesting and they did exactly the opp (the team that is).

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
