Cartmanuk that is the part of the case thing rather than the actual switch.

For this I only looked at a picture I am having trouble finding a US source for the switch (minature push to make right angled let alone a holder like that) although I do not have the best US sources for electronics (had a quick scan around newark.com , alliedelec.com and jaycar.us). I am guessing the eject is randomly happening and/or not working properly which is otherwise classic switch bounce failure, I will note there have also been "open tray errors" which are the fault of the tray motor mechanism or the sign of a dying laser (POT tweak might bring it back in line for a while).
If you are not especially bothered about looks you can just replace it with any old PTM switch and it should be good (I have been known to have a couple of wires do the job as well) and likewise ground pin 3 of the DVD drive ( http://i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa189/yaywoop/360/sch-1.jpg ) and you have an eject button and all you for that is desolder the one on the board (assuming it is random ejects rather than dodgy button).

There are ways you can help these switches out some times if you can get a bit of contact cleaner in there but unless it is something truly custom or vital for general use (shoulder buttons or something) I tend not to bother.

Edit- you might also be able to pick up a "useless" RRoD board (no valid keys, mo option for JTAG and otherwise unrecoverable RRoD sort of thing) and grab one from there.

Thanks for the info, Fast. I suppose I should have been clearer in my first post, lol - the eject button on my brother's board stopped working. Drive works fine, ejecting from the dashboard works fine, but the switch soldered to the board rarely works anymore.

I was thinking about just rigging any old switch into it like that, I definitely have a few laying around, I was just wondering if there were any less hackish ways of doing it. And for what it's worth, it isn't an urgent matter to fix this - you wouldn't happen to know any places that do international shipping that sell something that would work, do you? I looked, and DX doesn't, and Google searches come up short or with the eject piece linked above.

Thanks!

You should be able to find these eject switch on eBay (1) (2) as well as digikey/mouser. I don't know the exact dimension of the switch or if its no/nc.

You're the bomb. I'm amazed those cost that much lol, but still, that's not too bad. Just gotta get a replacement joystick assembly for his controller (I know a site that sells em cheap) and solder that in and he'll be good to go. His Halo ODST controller is breaking down because it's the only one he uses.

Good thing he's got me around to fix this crap
