Is it the year of the snake or something? The Metal Gear franchise rarely seems to take a break latlely, with Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and Peacewalker recieving HD upgrades, Metal Gear Solid 3 going 3D and then Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 going portable all within the past 8 months it seems Konami is on a roll to now present a slighty updated Metal Gear Solid 4 with a trophy patch. Released back in 2008 exclusively on the PS3 the game came out a bit early to recieve trophy support which in recent years many fans have requested yet been turned down for, the only glimmering hope being Hideo Kojima stating if he had the time he would like to add trophy support as well as 3d support to Metal Gear Solid 4. The game will come with support for trophies out of the box in August for Japan with a soon to be released "Playstation the Best" version with a patch to follow soon for previous buyers. This news may sliightly please Metal Gear Solid 4 fans after the online servers for Metal Gear Online went offline this year

Suppose it is one of the cheapest ways for Konami to help create interest in Metal Gear Rising, gives me reason to play through it again i guess

I wouldn't be surprised if this became a tactic used by many companies. Launch game without achievements. Wait until interest in the game fades enough, then update it with achievements to bring back interest.

Well MGS4 was launched before achievements (correct?) so adding it now is just more of an opportunistic thing. I don't think like any Xbox 360 games don't have achievements provided they're officially supported, for example.

Correct. MGS4 was released in 2008 and if memory serves me correct, trophy support only became mandatory in 2009.

Forgive me. I was in the mindset of the whole DLC-on-disc crap when I was thinking about achievements being tacked on months/years after a game releases.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt and guess he was refering to certain games like these HD collection games which usually market themselves on "Remastered HD Graphics" and "Achivement/Trophy Support"

Well people hardly buy those for achievements or trophies, they're just a nice additional feature to compliment the games. It's like having a game that comes with some useless bonuses like developer diaries or concept art that you can view in the game. It's a nice side feature but hardly a selling point.

Cool. I was going to replay this because the first time I played it, I had no idea what was going on, as it was the first MGS game I played. I only bought the game because some friends told me it was good. I bought the HD collection and beat MGS 2 and 3, and currently working on Peace Walker. Now, I should decide to wait for the patch, or just play it again anyway.

agreed it is no selling point, but they do encourge people to play again for easy points. If the knock on effect can be that said person plays the game again and is encouraged to play the next in the series (keep in mind, most of these HD Collections seem to have sequels in the works) I would say the tactic has worked

I still have yet to actually buy this (even though I played all of the other MGS games) I'll probably buy it once it gets re-released.

Until I read this thread I thought that everyone that played the game was enthralled with the cutscenes! I can finally admit that I skipped everything from the fourth crazy girl onward!
Whoa, dude.

You don't skip cutscenes in an MGS game. You just don't.

This.

The only time the cutscenes got boring for me was right at the end, when everything started going over my head. Literally, the final cutscene that was explaining all the backstory and overarching plot points... It got a bit confusing. Deffo worth playing through again with trophies, so I guess I probably will! I can only imagine the additions they'll ahve made with some kind of fourth-wall breaking codec chat.
