Monster Hunter 4 will be released in Spring 2013!

By the way, while we're on the subject - I'm sure that the game will control beautifully, seeing that the most major complaint of people who played MH on the PSP was *the lack of a second analog stick*. :tpi:

I strongly suggest breaking out that wallet of yours and getting a CPP if you don't want to break your thumbs.
Apparently the game controls really well without a second stick (Tri G) with on-screen D-Pad, lock-on and a revised camera.

I do not have a CPP and have no plans of owning one. And yeah the controls are smooth. Even without the touchscreen D-pad. I seldom to never use that at all.

It's true that emigre was clear as fucking day joking, but this is about news of MH4 and not an article to insult true fans/players.

Fixed. If anyone has an issue with me than feel free to do it than feel free to PM me rather clutter up this thread.

Never found Monster Hunter terribly interesting. I have Freedom Unite and I'll play it now and then but it's still nothing amazing like everyone makes it out to be. The franchise just feels like it relies too much on appealing to kleptomaniacs. Personally I'd just play an open world RPG instead with more to do, more variety, and better story instead.

I failed to see why it suddenly became popular here. Well, I know why, but I'll avoid the shitstorm my revelation will bring.

It is an extremely simplified clone of elder scrolls w/o guilds, a story and magic. Monster Hunter equals kindergarten scrolls... Your thoughts something like that?

Visuals aren't as good as Tri G (those ground textures) but that's because of that humongous open-world.

Still looks good.

The most significant thing about Monster Hunter is that whatever platform it's on sells like free money.
So uh
Well in Japan. Everywhere else... not so much.
And Japan are where handhelds matter the most.

I'll even go as far to say that Monster Hunter saved the PSP in Japan. Monster Hunter 4 being on the 3DS is a big deal and will boost 3DS sales by quite a bit, surpassing PS3 lifetime sales in Japan.

There is one difficult issue that Capcom will have to tackle: Should they dig one or two giant pits for the incoming tidal wave of cash?

Well, I wouldn't say it's like Elder Scrolls, they're rather different. Especially in the collecting aspect. While Elder Scrolls is full of mundane items just lying around that serve really no purpose, in Monster Hunter you have to actively seek each item and they all serve a purpose in crafting armor and crap. But Monster Hunter runs into the issue of being cyclical; the goal of beating monsters and collecting resources is to build items that further that. It's kinda pointless honestly. Elder Scrolls, you invest all your time and effort into completing quests and doing many other things. Making better potions, enchantments, armor, weapons, dealing more damage with your weapons or magic.

So it's a collection-obsessive game, I don't find it too compelling without other aspects driving it (which it doesn't). Like recently I've been playing Dragon's Dogma (another Capcom game) and the collection aspect is more Monster Hunter styled than Elder Scrolls styled, but it works fine because you have great combat, quests, and a relatively open world to drive the need for these items. It isn't cyclical.

Plus people call the lousy combat in Monster Hunter as "purposefully lousy" to make the game "challenging" when it's really not hard to make a game that has great combat and is still challenging. This is from the guys who published Devil May Cry for Christ's sake.

So that's my Monster Hunter deal. I kinda think people overhype it because either A) it boosts sales of their console of choice, B) it's popular in Japan, or C) it's now leaning towards Nintendo release wise and people want to get high on that as much as they can.

lol @ lousy combat. i figure people who say those prefer button-mashers?

anyways, this is awesome news, if only for the fact that NA may not be getting it any time soon, if ever.

i fear the exclusivity of MH3G and MH4 on the 3DS may have had some pretty steep stipulations... like Capcom having free reigns on which regions to release it to or some other bullshit clause like that. I hope whoever in the upper echelons thought of not releasing both games in the western world chokes tonight on some piece of bone and dies a horrible death.

I hope they make the game less boring than the others.

I tried one of the PSP ones and Tri for Wii, and they just kind of throw you into the game with no instructions and make you do slow-paced quests.

Thanks again capcom for teasing everyone that doesn't speak Japanese.
No way I'm buying jap region 3ds just to play a game I can't read.
If they don't localize this one, let's hope the 3ds is hacked by the time of release in Japan.
Fan translation ftw!

You can actually skip all of those if you go into the Guild hall and just start on the low ranked dragon killing quests.
It's a shame that so many people think you need to do those gathering quests.
They really should make it obvious that you can just get right into the good stuff.
