They just said that they think there's a filter (physical, not software) because it doesn't look as pixelated. This is probably just a result of slight blurring because of the increased screen-size. No one is bullshitting anyone.
When you put the word "filter" in the article without clearly stating that it is not a software one, people start assuming things and that's unintentional misinformation. It's important to be straight-forward with the news posted, so that you avoid the "Chinese Whispers" effect where news spawn more news as they're passed on.
Filter was a translation. For all we know the French article may have used a more appropriate word.
It didn't.
Proof please?

I read it.

Proof?
I read it.
I mean, show me the paragraph where they use 'filter' (or the French alternative).
"Il doit y avoir un filtrage qui arrondit les pixels" - There must be a filter there that rounds up the pixels. First time ever when my french classes have paid off.

Eh, well I guess it's just poorly written then.
Oh, from what I've read, it's written perfectly fine - it's just written by someone who isn't familiar with the technology utilized. There's no doubt that the screen has been improved since the initial release, it's just that the use of the term "filter" is rather unfortunate as it doesn't specify its nature - software of hardware, and it's speculation. There's most likely no filter there, it's just an improved screen. :)

Apparently, it's a list of changes they've made to the 3DS, given by Nintendo themselves.

- Nintendo has made no material changes to the 3DS XL's displays
- Nintendo hasn't adjusted the 3DS XL to accommodate the 90% display increase
- "the speaker function of the XL is the same quality level as the 3DS'"
- Nintendo has adjusted the D-Pad, shoulder and face buttons
- they are now "slightly bigger than the 3DS buttons"

Well, again we won't know how it truly feels until we try it out for ourselves.

You really don't know me very well. ;)

I'm calm and collected, I just have an "agressive" way of getting my point across. Don't treat it personally.

Well, I seen your agressive a lot,
so that's hard to imagine you're that calm and collected :D

The fun part is that once you get to know me, I'm as cuddly as a carebear. That said, I like arguing for the sake of arguing - it's really a sport more than anything.

Back on-topic though, it's a shame that they didn't get their hands on the CPPXL attachment in the video. I'd love to see that more than anything, I'm sure it's going to look... quite... remarkable on the XL.

I think the CPP on 3DS XL will be something so huge that will be almost impratictable!

Why is everyone ignoring the fact of how the hell DS games will look in it????????????

I'm very interested on it
I'm willing to buy it just for that

Yes, I wonder too...
We can always wait for someone to post a video

Do you guys think I can trade in my normal 3DS on a local Game store plus 50 bucks maximum to buy this new model ? Have you heard of any trade in promotions ?

One thing to bear in mind, pixel shapes and sized aside, is that when the DS was conceived, nobody at Nintendo has even thought of an XL model. That being the case, no allowances would have been made in the hardware/OS to support such a concept.

When the 3DS was designed, it was surely known there would have been an XL model. This being the case there may be allowances in the hardware/software to ensure games look better on the 3DS XL than the DSiXL

LOL, No son, no local store will give you that deal, I wish but no, most they will do is give you like 80 bucks for a used 3ds in credit to use on the purchase of the LL one, and thats asking a lot.... You are better off just selling it on ebay or to someone...

hmm, ds games look whashed out like they do on the normal 3ds, also those black boarders look very distracting, espcially with suh a huge screen too :( super mario 3d land looks ok

Is this your first hand impression ( did you get the chance to play one yet ) or are you judging the screen quality trough the crappy youtube video ?
I remember your " first " DSiXL impression, and that wasn't nice too. If I would have listened to your judgement, I would have never gotten one and realized it was the best handheld I ever purchased......
