I am so happy right now. I have been trying to get Arc the Lad II or Suikoden II working for quite some time. I can now report that I have been able to get both games working flawlessly with Darkalex's m33-6 cfw and his popsloader plugin.

It took me alot of time to find the files.

Darkalex is the man!, and to think that most of his software is becoming lost...

Once again, I cannot express my gratitude completely for this software. What a champ.

I would also appreciate any info on darkalex and how you guys feel about his 5.00 series cfw compared to the newer cfw's.

Unless you have some really special reason to use it, or are lazy (guilty as charged - 2 of my PSP's still use 5.00 M33-6), then there's almost zero reasons to use M33 firmware over PRO. No huge benefit to PSX compatibility, homebrew etc...you could argue there's some, but sticking on 5.00 because it's "better" isn't one of them, nor is "but PRO is really buggy".

Go PRO.

(edited/corrected- does Firefox have some sort of predictive spelling correction? Or am i just missing large gaps of vision?)

Apparently PRO has some issues (like no sound) with pre-6.xx pops versions. It might depend on your motherboard though.

It must depend on the motherboard, as I have now tried Pro b9 660, b10 660 and b10 620 with different popsloader plugins, mainly the popsloader hombrew though. None of these worked for me, I spent a looong time geting these to work, more than most newbs that post annoying thread like this one.

I must be in a minority, I have a really good reason to use this as it is the only one that worked for me (I have watched so many youtube tutorials, I am very sure I was doing everything correctly with Pro cfw's); I am just really grateful this cfw works for me, and it may for others with really old psp's too.

Yeah I had a b9 popsloader pack from a youtube tutorial for my b9 install (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnsp3CJ2LfU). I used the popsloader installer homebrew for 6.xx pro b10fix cfw three times without success(also tried it with the b9 pops), and then also tried pro cfl 620 with another popsloader pack, I think I found it via google or perhaps from another youtube tutorial.

To be honest, I dont know much about the technical side, but I started to think that maybe my psp is too old for the newest cfw, so I went back to 620 and then to m33. I realise there is probably no age factor but I didnt know what else to try.

Then I tried m33-6 and another popsloader for that version, I installed it in a similar way from what I had learnt previously and it worked first time, I couldn't believe it, Suikoden loaded for the first time.

I have now got so many awesome games working since the last post, just speechless. Golden era of jrpgs for sure. Hogs of war and oddworld arent bad either.

I don't remember which one I'm useing now, but it has the ability to swap loader based on whatever the game needs.

You guys are lucky, because I dont have Pro (I will for another PSP) I cannot access PSN, Sony refuses to accept my money as I am an unclean cfw user. Ah well, suppose klowin can help me, bless his heart.

^ I can't use PRO because it won't work on my psp with popsloader for some reason. In one of my post above this one I actually list my software sources and explain that they didn't work despite following many different tutorials, both on youtube and this site.

Anytime I use popsloader with PRO I get a black screen, my system then shuts down on it's own, making it impossible to play games like arc the lad, tony hawks 2 or suikoden that need popsloader to work.

Now that I have m33-6 I am enjoying all these games without any problem, but sony won't let me access psn to get disgaea and monster hunter, sigh. And I would have got the newer ff9, mine is the old psx version. Sony is shooting themselves in the foot here, disgaea 1 + 2 are almost $60 aussie dollars on the own. They dont respect our currency depite it's strength.

I don't actively use POPSloader so that's why I haven't given much advice, but if the PSP is shutting off then something critical is crashing, what other plugins are set up? They'd transfer over CFWs even after a firmware wipe because they're set up on the memory stick (not the flash) and both 5.x and 6.x firmwares use the same sort of plugin system.

...and I am on 6.60 PRO on my 2nd Gen PSP (200x 2g Motherboard) and POPSloader has zero issues whatsoever. If there's anything to blame, it might be your MSPD, really. Do try a different one, PRO can be quite picky about them.

@Rydian
I have wiped the memory stick and the firmware (pandora) each time, I actually format the mem card after cfw update then load the plugins and games on a clean memory card; this means my memory card only has popsloader (or the homebrew app for popsloader), games and a few empty folders. Popsloader is the only plugin I use and need, I did give joysens a try after going to m33-6 eithout success though.

@Foxi4
What is the MSPD?
I also thought there may be a NAND issue, my understanding is that NAND is a fundamental software architecture, that can be damaged and is impossible to remedy, even with pandora.

I have a first Gen, I am going to get another one, as well as two custom skins and replacement screens. PSP is without a doubt my top console ever, use to be PS1. I am a newb, so I have missed out for a long time lol.

That's not the point - PRO is known to be picky about memory stick *brands*. On some, POPSLoader works, on others it just doesn't due to a very slight delay between mounting the stick and launching the application, making the PSP unable to enable POPSLoader or some other plugins that are supposed to enable on application load. ME doesn't have that problem as frankly... it just "does less".

Do try out a different stick out.

As for joysens, do note that's one of the plugins with bot 5.x and 6.x versions, make sure you're getting the right one.

NAND is hardware, it's another way of referencing the PSP's internal flash. It's divided into four sections; flash0 is the firmware, flash1 is the settings, flash2 is the PSN/activation info, and flash3 is godknowswhat.

I'd agree with another memory stick test, if the PSP's crashing something's odd.

Oh memory stick, I have a sony 8gb magic gate hg duo, hx. It is supposedly fast, though I dont know. If not Sony, what brand would you recommend?

I might try ME then, since you said it doesn't have this problem...?

(I don't know what you mean by 'that's not the point', I was just trying to find out what 'MSPD' meant, I did think it was mem stick something, but I am not trying to argue with you dude, I really am listening to what you have to say.)

@Rydian
I could only find an old version of joysens, I did search google(startpage), where are you finding the newer versions?, as joysens would be good to have.
