EA's normally a publisher. They develop games like Mirror's Edge and Battlefield, but they normally publish games like Dragon Age and Dante's Inferno.
I guess they coount as both, though.
erm, dante's inferno was made by EA.
to say EA is normally a publisher is ignorant really, I suggest you go learn more about EA, here's a starting point: EA Games and EA Sports.

If Valve were to make this exact same move for Steam, everyone would be up in arms praising them as the messiahs the gaming world has been waiting for. When EA does it, of course, they're Satan's legion incarnate.

I don't approve of all their business practices, but this bandwagon hatred of all things EA is getting ridiculous.

I agree with you there, bandwagon hate is a little ridiculous, and it's largely present in the case of EA. I don't think people really know what EA's doing wrong, and they just simply hate them because other's are, because "there must be a reason, right? Otherwise other people wouldn't hate them," and by that logic apparently ones hate is justified. Good ol' bandwagoning

I actually never knew that EA Games was separate from EA, and I also didn't know they were a developer, but I still don't think that changes the injustices caused by EA (RIP Will Wright).

The developer was Vicseral games. EA was just the publisher.
I guess I was wrong about them publishing games more often, though.

No, you are correct. EA publishes far more games than they develop, just take a look at their wiki page. They own companies that make the games (like Bioware and Maxis) and they develop the games; EA, in turn, publishes them. That's not to say they don't publish games, they do, but they're publish to dev ratio is pretty decisive.

Its a bandwagon I gladly jump on. I've had many bad experiences with EA, and I just can't stand 'em. This however is a good move,
