So GBAtemp, to snipe, or not to snipe?

I've been looking forward to this game for awhile. I played the original, and the rip off "Sniper: Ghost Warrior". I have to say, sniping is my favourite FPS pastime. :D So tempers, to snipe, or not to snipe, that is the question.

Jeez...what's with all the camera following the bullets bull(et)shit? Bullet time was cool in Max Payne and the matrix, but if it's with EVERY FRICKING KILL you make, it gets gimmicky fast.

[sarcasm]Using a machine gun must be swell in that game. And multiplayer even more ("everyone in the server wait up...we've got to show a fatality deathscene to some camper").
[/sarcasm]

Personally, I've never been a fan of sniper rifles since playing CTF-Facingworlds back in Unreal Tournament (on most servers, I was the only guy who did all sorts of controversial stuff like trying to get to their base and take that flag-thingy).

The sniper rifle has always been my weapon of choice ever since Goldeneye on the N64, love the thrill of the snipe.

Hell yes man!

It won't happen every time. It only does a bullet cam when you hit their vitals. Also, sniper rifles are great support, but players never use them to their full potential. One of the reasons I love some FPSs is because snipers not only make a great back row support, but also a first rate infiltration unit. There isn't anything that provides a greater satisfaction than sneaking up on an enemy and humiliating them from behind. :)

What do you mean "only"? It's a sniper rifle! A shot can only do 2 things: 1) miss 2) pierce through skin, tissue and bone.

Selfgratification is another reason why I don't play those games anymore. Not only can't you just walk from point A to B without being killed unless you check 523 possible sniper spots, but the guy who sniped you think he's the one humiliating you when he shoots you in the back.

I loved the original version and have been watching the remake progress. The only thing that is stopping me from grabbing a copy right now is that it is online co-op only (the original had splitscreen).

In some ways I would have preferred a more modern one or perhaps something that little bit newer (I quite liked line of sight- vietnam back when) but given the alternatives of Snipers (just no) and sniper: ghost warrior (I agree the original is pretty awful as a sniper game which means it is then pretty awful as a game although ghost warrior 2 is looking like it might be worth looking at).

Failing that the sniper mechanics in games is getting better (far cry 2 did itself proud and many others are doing pretty good even if they do not have the levels for it) so I might not have to look to dedicated games too much longer.

"Vitals" as in organs... You won't hit an organ THAT often.

If you're playing a competitive FPS, you SHOULD check all your corners. You should know where you could be sniped from. I think you're mad from being sniped too often...

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
