Should Nintendo come out with a Virtual Boy collection for 3DS?

It certainly would be nice if they did rig up a basic emulator for Virtual Boy titles. Whether or not that they'll actually do it for the few titles that were actually worth playing is hard to say, but Nintendo have their blueprints and I can't imagine it'd be too hard to make said basic emulator.
If they bothered it would be the most comfortable way to play virtual boy games, optional red colour palette, but more than likely mandatory 3D effect.
No having to stick your face into a hefty pair of goggles on a tripod.

Its called a emulator.
Take the blinkers off, mate, not everyone wants to mess around downloading emulators and ROMs. I'd much rather see an official release and I'm willing to wait until it happens. I'm not particularly desperate to play the games, but I would buy them if they were released on VC, just for the experience.

Regardless of whether it was a success or a failure, the Virtual Boy is still a part of gaming history and it shouldn't be buried for all eternity. Nintendo shouldn't be ashamed of it, they should be proud. They should embrace that and release the games for the 3DS to show the natural progression of 3D gaming from then until now.
I'm sorry, where did I say it shouldn't be made? I simply said people need to calm down about it, there's no "blinkers to turn off here" (@Zerosuitconnor, what the hell does that mean :l) if they make it, fucking whoppie, another collection of old games. History my ass, its a game console, and it really had little effect on the industry. Its just a nice little fail that /v/tards can over reference when they talk about how cool Sony is.
You didn't say it shouldn't be made, but I didn't imply that you did say that. I was merely stating my own opinion in response to your comments that there were no good games and it was a crap console. WRT blinkers, your response, "it's called a emulator", just seems a little narrow sighted. Also, your statement about people calming down seemed unnecessary, it was the 4th post and I'm unconvinced that people were getting over-excited.

The effect on the industry might be subtle, but there's no doubt it had an effect on Nintendo. It was a mistake to learn from and, arguably, it led them down the path to where they are now. The 3DS proves that they were undeterred in their quest to bring 3D gaming to the consumer and the two consoles seem somewhat linked by that. Remember, Europeans never saw the VB, so it would be more of a collection of new old games for us.
People have been talking about VB games since the 3DS was announced. And the rants I have heard about Wario Land VC (Although those did primarily come from Arnold Swarsinegger, pardon my spelling) it by no means has been silent during this time, besides, what I said was more in a joking sense an actual tone of me being upset. And if you SERIOUSLY want to play VB games that bad, you grab a emulator rather then invest money into something your most likely going to be dissapointed with.

I would much rather see full color remakes of the games placed on the eshop for 2-4$ The games are excellent recycling material and could even be marketed as new things since so few people touched them

Full color remakes could be cool, if there was a classic option. But I think that gets into the realm of asking too much. Plus, I would expect them to be at least 5$.

Straight release, its almost pure profit. Recoloring etc they would actually have to spend money.

Yeah. No thanks.

The Virtual Boy sucks for a reason.
It's the platform not the games them selfs, don't take what James says too literary, he admits that he often exaggerate things for comical value.
Wario land, Mario clash, teleroboxer are actually very good games.

I know AVGN is mostly for entertainment but I'm merely stating the fact that while it had some decent games, a few were either mediocre and not worth the effort remaking for the 3DS or just plain bad.

Mario Clash and Mario Tennis aren't really worth it... Mario Clash isn't really that big of an improvement over the original Mario Bros and Mario Tennis is... Mario Tennis. Nothing really special about it.

Some games are just bad. Waterworld and Red Alarm instantly come to mind.

Better yet, they have the code for the Virtual Boy compiler they distributed to developers as part of their SDK. Making a really fast emulator with dynamic recompilation (kinda like the compiler running backwards) would be a piece of cake for them.

I think that's why so many Virtual Console Wii channels and eShop games actually have the original ROM embedded them. Nintendo didn't dig up the original source code for the games and recompile them for newer hardware. They just made an emulator since it's extremely easy for them as long as the developer didn't do anything really weird when it was originally programmed the game.

Adding color to them, on the other hand, would take a good amount of work. It would be cool, I admit, but I think they would almost HAVE to market them as something new if they were gonna plan on getting their money's worth out of the work they'd put into it.

Wait... If it had Dual pads and normal A & B buttons. How would the controls even work...

Few games used both dpads. The only ones that come to mind where it actually mattered are Red Alarm and Teleroboxer. Arguably, you can play Red Alarm with only one of the dpads, but not Teleroboxer (not much of a loss if you asked me...)

EDIT: Oh, and 3D Tetris. It used one dpad for placement and another for vertical rotation.

Maybe they could place some buttons on the touch screen. :yaynds:
The non-multi touch screen? Yeah, one button.
:hateit: Good point.

Anyway, I guess they could get creative like interpret any movement of the analog as a button press . . . actually, it would make more sense to use the analog as the left d-pad and use the d-pad as some sort of button :ha: not any real good universal way to do it.
It would probably just end up being different for every title.

Well, still. If its going to be VC, its going to be a emu with a rom right? They would already have a hard time selling games from a system widely known as Nintendos failure. Plus they would have to modify the roms input-outputs. It seems a little much to sell some half-decent games.

the X, Y, A, and B buttons are practically another d-pad but you would have to do without some of the buttons on any game.

The CP is too sensitive to be used as a button input. And using the D-Pad would be almost as uncomfortable as the original controller. I doubt they would make different control modifications for each title also, for the above reason.

According to James' rantings, only two games used both the d-pads. I've never played them, but digging around I see that Teleroboxer didn't use A or B, so A B X Y could be the right d-pad with L R performing the regular action. As for Red Alarm, it appears you don't really have any options there.

It wouldn't be too difficult to have different button layouts configured for the emulator, switched with per-game metadata.
