I've had my Wii since launch, but I never bought a classic controller. I've been able to make-do with a Wavebird for GC/Emulators, and I've been extremely satisfied with it.

I finished Xenoblade with the standard Wiimote/Nunchuck. I was on the cusp of buying a classic controller then, but I figured that Xenoblade would be the last game I'd play on the Wii that supported the classic controller. The Last Story came out, and now I'm re-evaluating my decision. With TLS and possibly Pandora ahead of me, should I fork over the $15-$20 and buy a classic? Or do you think that it's too late in the Wii's lifecycle for me to get much use out of the classic?

Money isn't a problem, but I don't like buying one-off controllers that I use infrequently.

well if you plan on buying a wii u it should be compatible with that a well, plus for emulators the d pad is great

Pandora's Tower will most likely not be classic controller supported, as you actually use the wiimote to aim and do some other things that requires motions.

The Classic Controller is personally my favorite peripheral. I use in conjunction with Mario Kart Wii, and place in the top half of the race almost every time, and do set faster than average time trials.

the wavebird is better and cordless

Only better in your opinion. Personally, I find GC controllers (wavebird included) aren't great for anything using the D-pad, whereas the Classic Controller is perfectly fine for both D-Pad and analog stick based games. Only thing I don't care for on the CC is lack of rumble, but wavebird wouldn't have that either.

who cares i've always hated using the d-pad even though i grew up with it and it's especially a pain in the ass in games where you need to aim diagonally

the d-pad placement of the gamecube controller is just wrong
dont use it than i've always used the analog :P
try to play tetris with an analog stick haha
easy i play mario, sonic, chrono, metroid any game all with the analog easily. you need more practice!

I don't get why someone else's preference is taking over a thread that has nothing to do with it. Some people like analog, some don't.

Anyways, no, it is not to late to get a Classic Controller. I've managed to get a deal for two on Craigslist for 8 dollars awhile ago and I've loved them to bits and pieces. I might be picking up the bulkier model in a week or so, but we'll see. As far as getting a Wavebird over this - no. The Wavebird is so amazing bulky and unnatural for gaming that is annoys me to no end.
