Windows 8 Consumer Preview starts 9am EST

A main concern is desktop users, if the original UI is available there for backwards compatibility that's fine.

I say:

I don't believe that Microsoft would create an OS that's so different from it's previous iterations, without including some sort of Classic Mode. If Windows 8 is nothing more than a glorified tablet OS, it would really keep hardcore computer users away.

The final version should have a "classic mode" - completely disable the Metro interface. I have no idea whether it's included in this version or not, though.

I know Microsoft said that last year.
On a side note, I doubt Metro will replace the start menu in the safe mode of Windows 8, so the classic look will most likely still exist in the OS. Even if Metro won't be opt-out a registry hack will probably restore the old look.

That is if the old style exists on the portable side. Tablets don't have 500GB of storage and tons of processing cycles to spare so it may be one of the things that gets cut to make windows fit on consumer (cheap) tablets.

Hands-on impression on it now.
1. The new bootloader is just s*** slow as hell it reboot my computer if i choose another OS(still load it but why reboot??).but you can revert to the good old text bootloader if you have xp installed just make it default. but still sucks
2. The install from USB was successful I just copied the file onto the usb stick i was using for DP.
3. Installing on a VHD worked like a charm as expected.
4. The start menu is working like I imagined it; a lot better than DP. just go around your hard drive and pin everything you can find into the start menu. That way you browse fast as hell. If you want to add a folder just make a explorer shortcut and add the folder address after.(ex. explorer.exe c:\games) it seem to only work on root folders tough.
5. If you are xbox live user theres nice gaming apps but im not so i dont care.
6. Overall most apps are too intrusive they want you to log in with your microsoft account onto windows come on now.
They want access to all your private life while I can't have all access my own fucking folder??
7. Another app store? Thats so.. 2010 your late MS.
8. Metro internet explorer IS bad. whats more to say?
9. Its seem stable (so far) my good old computer an the OS get along good.
10.Its worth using I really think there.s a downside from seven the compatibility is pretty much the same,

I have always used this tutorial, it should work for more than just the windows 7 installation.

if you follow it, make sure to select the correct disk in step 2 (you can get a list with 'list disk')

EDIT: Apparently you can also just use Microsoft's Windows 7 USB tool if you want

Apparently you can just mount the ISO in a virtual drive using something like Daemon Tools or Virtual Clone Drive and then just run "setup.exe" from the root of the virtual drive.

if you click the setup.exe from the root of the drive, it will just update your current installation. I believe if you run the setup.exe from the "sources" folder, it will give you the option to install to a different hard drive or partition, for a dual-boot OS

Tried this earlier, in my opinion it's awful, the Metro stuff is just crap for a desktop, and tbh i don't think i would like it on a tablet either personally.

I just got rid of this yesterday, but apparently the computer doesn't know that and it'll try to boot Win 8 if left alone for 30 secs or so. I want it to go back to booting straight from Win 7.

winkey+r > msconfig > boot.ini

that'll probably help you. or you could try to remove the drive u had it on/format the partition if you haven't yet

Thanks, that seemed to have helped . I tried removing the drive already before, but the computer still went back to it though.
