Hi guys, sorry about my previous post.

I was wondering if it was safe to downgrade (I read somewhere boot2v4 wii's CAN be downgraded this low, but I'm playing it safe here). I previously downgraded my 4.3u Wii to 4.1, and that is why I have boot2v4.

Thanks in advance!

Is this one of those "because I can" thingies? I don't see the point of taking risks and playing things safe at the same time. In case there was anything to gain, I'd call it a calculated risk...but there is nothing to gain by downgrading to 3.4 (are you THAT tired of having SDHC support?). Even JoostinOnline would at best advocate that 4.1 is the best firmware version and that if you really, really, REALLY wanted to downgrade, it'd be to that firmware version.

Anyhow...the downgrade itself shouldn't be too hard (warning: purely theoretical stuff coming up). Make sure you install a non-stubbed IOS50 first, then followed by an install of the actual 3.4 firmware of your region. Both can be gotten with NUS downloader.

Sorry. Skip the above. Just read up this piece of information:

However, Nintendo wasn't done with us yet! After some time, they managed to bring out a new kind of Wii, the Lu64+ Wii as it is called now days. These Wii's have a small hardware change, as well as an update for Boot2. These changes made it so that when a Lu64+ is downgraded, it instantly Bricks the Wii.

Isn't that fun...I thought it wasn't so hard if you didn't forgot to unstub IOS50 first, but there's a second risk.

Oh, and as for downgrading your boot2...I don't think it's possible. I updated it a couple days ago, and dop-mii was VERY vocal about it being impossible to revert.

EDIT: Perhaps worth mentioning: get sneek (or a variant thereof). Once you got an emulated nand set up to be used, you can dick around in it all you want...at best you'll brick your emu-nand, which you can replace almost instantly with a fresh one.

It would work as long as you installed "IOS30v16174(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP-VP-DIP]).wad" first. You can get it from ModMii.

Still, like Wever said, 4.1 is your best choice because it has all the latest features and bugfixes without the anti-homebrew crap of 4.2+

Forgot to mention, it's not possible to downgrade boot2.

It is possible but there's absolutely no point - boot2 either works or it doesn't, there's no discernible difference between the revisions.

so unless your deadlyfoez with an infectus, is there another way of doing that? Existing homebrew or otherwise? I'm just curious, thx
I can't code anything to write to the seeprom, and thats what is needed first before you can downgrade boot2 blocks. The infectus would let me write an older boot2, not change anything in the seeprom. It would actually be easier to just have a homebrew app that does both ends of it instead of tearing apart the wii and whipping out the infectus.

I wish I did have a homebrew app that could let me downgrade the boot2 version in the seeprom, but I don't and it's really pointless anyways for any normal user. Maybe if there was some usable exploit in older boot2 versions that would give us anything more than what we already can do then it would be worth it, but there is not any worthy reason.

There are a few people that have some apps that can write to the seeprom, like one that can remove the korean key, but no one is willing to share them because if something does go wrong while writing to the seeprom then your wii is fucked for good and no one would ever be able to fix it.

The only publicly available homebrew app that writes to the seeprom (that I am aware of) is dop-mii, and IIRC that function is based off of bushings code.

EDIT: @OP, If you care for any more in depth info about boot2 versions, and using the older IOS's that were made for older system menu's, you can read;

Dop-mii does not write to the SEEPROM, it uses IOS to install boot2 in exactly the same way as the system menu would.

I dunno why you guys are even "curious" about this, I already said it would be completely pointless.

Oh yeah, I remember you saying something on the lines of that before, and I think you said that it was actually boot2 itself that writes the version number to the seeprom the next time boot2 gets run.

After reading everything (again, for like my 3rd time) in those blogs, I guess that it is safe to assume that if you were to have a newer wii and you downgraded the boot2 version and everything that when boot2 got run it would just lock up because of the whole timing issues that occurred when N did the hardware changes.

Damn, I just woke up and I am barely awake enough to use my brain yet.

did u not read anything posted above? downgrading a lu64 wii below 4.0 will "instant brick" only if the new system menu is running off an original or stubbed system menu IOS. So if you install IOS60 to slot 30 before installing 3.2 system menu (which uses IOS30), even lu64 wii's will not brick.

I can't speak for everybody else, but I was curious because I've always seen people say that it is impossible. I'm always eager to learn more, even if it has no practical application. I certainly don't plan on trying to downgrade boot2.

"Impossible" things only stay that way until someone makes them possible... like fixing support for the new wiimotes, or a new HBC release, or running GC games without ARAM...

I would play around with downgrading boot2 if I was provided an app that can do so, but it is still rather pointless except just to play around. I've got enough wii's to play around with that it would would not break my heart if one accidentally become bricked for life.
