I could add support for elf's on the DML google code page, but after this fiasco I don't know if I can trust the DML team to not make a change in how the elf's are named that would break ModMii just because they want to break ModMii. This is why I intend to have ModMii grab DML from another source that I feel I can trust (as I stated earlier). This means that there might be a little lag in the time new beta's are on the google code page before they're available via ModMii, but the person who's volunteered to host the files for ModMii is someone you all know and love and is really on the ball, so I doubt new beta's will be live for long before they're available in ModMii.

I'm perfectly fine with how things worked out in the end (not a fan of how we got here, but that's a different story). I hope the DML team doesn't mind the route ModMii will be taking (ie. grabbing DML from another source). But as I said earlier, if any members of the DML team want to chat about how ModMii does (or should) operate, they are free to PM me privately about it.

I don't want to take away from this thread, so again I'm going to try to avoid discussing ModMii in this thread (as entertaining as it might be, lol).

*reads up on the modmii situation*

Hmm...going by Xflak's post here, things don't seem so bad. No attacks or anything...just a difference in opinion.

That's all right. I can understand that if you build something so complex as DML, it may sting that someone else gets payed just by linking to your work.

I don't share the opinion, though. I recently donated to modmii. Not because he combined some fancy links into a pretty interface, but in the work that has been put into it. Xflak doesn't just built modmii, he also maintains it. Questions, remarks, updates...the work may not be as complex as e.g. DML, it doesn't mean it is anything less of a chore. And that he has many, many posts of helpful information, also contributing to that reason.

I donated about the same amount back when Crediar just quit working on DML. Not to change his mind, but just to show some support...and that gbatemp isn't a bunch of cheapskates. :P

I was also one of the donators for Godlike's fundraiser. Granted, this was more to get it released. Still...the money was there.

In total, I've spent about 5 or 6 times more to DML/Crediar than to Xflak. So...sorry, but I have difficulty seeing the issue here.

I'm not trying to force things on anyone. I just hope things can remain civilized and supportive, no matter the outcome.

Thanx all for your contributions. :)

I have not read the posts from the past few days but it sounds like people changed the way downloads are added to the google code page and that ModMii needed a different place to host the files so they are in the correct format..... It sounds like you got a place to host the files but I am always up to help as well if needed. I am a web programmer and run spiffy360.com and willing to help out in any way that I can. It seems a simple script could be created to grab the latest download and zip it up into the needed format automatically or with the push of a button or link. Anyway, let me know if I can help out in any way.

So, how do we interpret the DML speed test results?
In other words, which of the 4 tests is most relevant to DML performance?, is there an interface hardware limits that pegs the transfer rate to 2560?, etc.

Basically, you want them all to as high as possible. I am assuming that if the speed test checks all these types of reads, DML uses all these types of reads. I don't know which is used most often etc., but I would recommend trying to get a card which has as high values as possible for all these tests. From a quick look at the table, you should use FAT with 64KB clusters (which I think is what has always been advised anyway).

Haha wow. I wonder if crediar knew about WiiPower asking XFlak for DML support in ModMii. I understand crediar's position in this, not wanting his software to be distributed to channels that make money off of it (that's also why he didn't like FIX94 uploading to Mediafire) and don't see anything wrong with it. After all, DML has taken a lot of work and is an amazing piece of software (the best Wii software in ages, even).

However, I think it's in very poor taste that WiiPower ceased contact with XFlak and pretty much ignored him, even after he asked XFlak for DML support in the first place.

Sorry for the silly question and be off-topic with this hot new discussion, but does anyone knows if we can use SDXC cards with DML?It would be perfect to be able to store our entire collection to a 64Gb card.

P.S As I feel thankful to Xflak and his almighty work with ModMii,I think that this is a pretty strange situation. The most outrageous development of this situation is the danger that DML seizes development and that is criminally wrong.DML is perhaps the most bright accomplishment in Wii Homebrew scene in the last years.Guys, please discuss your arguments and find a solution.Please...

No offence meant to XFlak, but very little of what ModMii can install is made by him. Yes he made the installer, but not a lot else (I know he contributed to d2x and stuff, but the majority of stuff he didn't really). He is also making money from a tool that downloads copyrighted code from Nintendo, which may be legally questionable, I dunno (I know it is freely available, that doesn't give the right to make money off of it).

I'm sorry but after reading this I simply had to throw my two cents on this one.

From the view of ModMii's license, Xflak can very well request money for it. ModMii and its components are GPL. GPL doesn't mean that the software needs to be free, even when 90% of it was written by other devs. It means that you are free to do with the software anything you want as long it is compliant with the license.

Requesting fees for GPL software is very common, for instance in the CMS and web business. A lot of students earn money for university by developing and selling GPL plugins, components etc.

As far as the NUS downloader goes, it doesn't do anything illegal. Yes it can download copyrighted code from Nintendos servers but you can do that also manually with every browser and at the end of the day it's still GPL software that can be sold.

Even I can open a site, put all GPL homebrew from other people in a package and sell it. Most people here would probably say that this is scam, but it is actually nothing illegal about it. By releasing their software under the GPL license all those devs have agreed that other people can modify, redistribute and even sell their software. So technically those devs have no right to prohibit other people from making money off their work.

If you don't believe me, ask for instance tueidj ;)

I know exactly what the GPL does and does not allow, and you'll note I never mentioned anything about it violating GPL in any way. All I was doing is pointing out that he didn't personally make the majority of the content available through ModMii. I did not at any point say that this was illegal. The only part I said was possibly legally questionable (because I am not a lawyer, and do not know if this is or is not the case) was downloading the copyrighted stuff from Nintendo, and making money off the tool to do so. And yes you can do this with any browser, or several other tools. That doesn't automatically make it legal to do so, or legal to make money from doing so.

I can copy DVDs with my computer. That doesn't mean it is legal to sell those copied DVDs. Like I said, I am not a lawyer. I doubt many here are. If there is one, maybe they can say for sure if it is or is not illegal. All I said is that is may be.

But there is no "possibly legally questionable" whatsoever. GPL software can be sold, period. It doesn't matter what this software can do as long it doesn't violate any other license or law. And by downloading code that a copyright holder distributes for everyone from his servers, you don't violate any license or law.

I was very happy to see the community (devs. and users) work together with D2X cIOS and new possibilities that came with it like IOS reload blocking.
Too bad this already seems to be forgotten. The start of DML as open source was promising though..I hope people start working together again.
Lets keep it positive...and not destroy it on trivial things like this.
I don't think d2x is dead. Davebaol still shows up and comments on the google code issues page every once in a while. I think he is just busy. During the last surge of activity, I brought to his attention the fact that you can play emunand games online using d2x with forwarder ISO's and he agreed to look into it with WiiPower and others, so that it could be made to work without forwarder ISO's. I don't know what become of that, but that was one of the things where I was most enthusiastic to see future progress.
Simply stating the fact we should work with each other and not against each other, and the proof is those wonderfull projects like the one i mentioned.

My point was that is may violate another license or law. I never mentioned the GPL, stop bringing it up. It is completely and utterly irrelevant here. Just because you can get stuff off NUS, doesn't necessarily make it legal too. If someone leaves their backdoor open, does that make it legal to pop in to their house and take what you like? Of course not. You are not a lawyer I am fairly sure, so please do not tell me that it is legal to download stuff unless you have legally binding proof to backup your statements.

From my understanding, crediar sold DML, and then almost all of it went GPL. How can crediars position really have any weight on what the current dev team chooses?

You don't have to be a lawyer to understand what your rights are. You said that Xflak may not have the right to make money off a tool that downloads copyright content. If you make such a claim you have to understand the license of the tool first. That's why I brought GPL up, because ModMii is GPL and therefore Xflak and anyone else can sell the heck out of it if they wants.

"Just because you can get stuff off NUS, doesn't necessarily make it legal too"

Of course it is. Lets check the facts:

1) NUS Downloader is GPL?
- Check.

2) Is the copyright content in question freely distributed?
- Check.

Seriously, if you claim that downloading Nintendos stuff off their servers with third-party tools may be illegal then you can also claim that the homebrew browser may be illegal as well because it also downloads copyrighted homebrew.

Well, because crediar is the current dev team, along with some contributions from WiiPower. He's the team leader and like 90% of the code is his. You do realize that crediar went back to developing
DML and is responsible for its current state, right?
