I know, I never (intentionally) singled out ModMii, other than pointing out that it is (I think) the only one of these tools that makes money from doing this (which from what I know of copyright laws, is a big deal in terms of copyright stuff).
Even WiiBrew has ads...

anyways, it's all good of course there are no hard feelings :D

The difference is that I am fairly sure developers of homebrew available through the HBB have allowed it to be, or would certainly be OK with it if asked. Nintendo have certainly not been asked if it is OK to download their copyrighted content in this manner, and if they were, I am fairly sure they wouldn't be overly ecstatic about it. The copyright holder has more rights over the content than you or I. It's not about the fact that a tool downloads copyrighted content, it's about permission to do so. Which in this case is not there. But it seems you are reluctant to accept the truth of the matter, so I'll leave it here.

Perhaps there is a little misunderstanding here. The only fact that Nintendo puts their files on their servers for grabs makes it legal to download them. Putting files for everyone to download is basically saying "Look people, we have uploaded our files on our servers. Feel free to download them."

What's the point in putting files on an open server if people are not allowed to download it? It would make more sense if they blocked browsers and everything except the Wii from accessing their update servers, but they didn't. And even if they did, what makes a Wii version of the NUS downloader illegal when still the Wii is used to download the files?

Thanks for the logs, i will check if the patch works at all. And if it does, i will disable it for other games, so this does not happen.

Is it possible that this corrupted my GC memory card? I just started Wind Waker with v42 and I got a message that it was corrupt and needed to format. I tried it from the original disc and got the same message. I also tested out Lego Star Wars II and had the same problem. I am able to browse saves from the Wii's save menu.

Should I go ahead and reformat it (I'd rather not lose my saves if I can help it), or is there something else I should try first?

Ouch!
I'll be sure to back everything up with Gamecube Memory Manager before I keep messing up with DML. Maybe you should back up whatever you have now, in case it can be salvaged afterwards, before doing anything else.

Tried that, it didn't recognize my MC (probably because it's official). I wish I had a second MC.

You should try unplugging the mem card when it says it needs formatting. It happened to me once with Luigis Mansion (says i needed to format) I just re-plugged the card and my save showed up :)

I'll give that a shot. What sucks is that the memory card gets stuck and I have to slide a piece of plastic down the side to slip it out.

Does the Wii memory card management system recognize the card and its contents?
I don't suppose you have and SD-Gecko that you can use a second memory card to transfer your saves there?
Yes and yes, but an SD Gecko doesn't work like that. It doesn't get identified as a memory card, it's just a way to add an SD card slot to a GC/Wii.

I'm still waiting to see if they want me to run any sort of test.
One more shot in the dark: did you check NuGaSa? It's not the same app as GCMM and apparently sometimes works with official cards:
" Problems with official Nintendo Memory Cards (sometimes NuGaSa may corrupt original GC cards; if this happens, just remove the GC card and turn off your Wii for a few minutes. The GC card should work again after that) "
It's not extremely encouraging but could be tried as last resort.

Tried that too, it gave me a code dump when I choose to back up a save file.
