First off, before crediar (ie. SanGor) started working on DML
again after it went open source (ie. rev22+) WiiPower approached ME, and asked if I could add support for DML beta's to ModMii. I actually dropped the work I was doing on ModMii Skin to finish that first because I didn't want to slow down DML development. WiiPower and I went back and forth and I made further changes at his request (ie. ModMii's DML debug mode option). So it kinda bothers me that I was requested to add support and now all this happens. WiiPower even asked me to make sure I add a lot of text giving crediar credit (which I would have done anyways) and that when the ModMii update with DML support is released to post about it in the DML thread. This is a minor point, because WiiPower was obviously okay with ModMii support, but then when crediar re-joined the DML he wasn't okay with it, which isn't hypocritical or anything because he specifically never made me any promises. And I agree that it's more important to appease the leader the DML team so development continues, so I don't blame WiiPower at all for letting crediar call the shots re. ModMii's DML support.
The way this was sprung on me was really inconsiderate. Rev 22+ was not uploaded in the fashion WiiPower and I agreed upon. If you look back a few pages in this thread you'll see that I was even okay with that because I thought the DML team didn't want the average joe modmii user building the latest beta's when so many new beta's were being churned out by the hour.
When I noticed people sharing WADs of DML, I PM'd SanGor and WiiPower asking if they would consider adding ModMii support for the latest DML rev's in an effort to avoid this (ie. less motivation to share WADs if anyone can easily build them with ModMii). To this I received no response even though I know they got the message. Then last night, before anything was posted about the removal of ModMii DML support, I noticed that all the older versions of DML that ModMii WAS still able to download were depreciated (btw, ModMii purposely does not show depreciated
downloads because I wanted to give total control to the DML team as to what revs are available in ModMii), so DML support in ModMii was totally broken. I PM'd SanGor and WiiPower again nicely asking about it (I even said something along the lines of "please let me know either way"). Even if they have issues with me or my program, it's common courtesy to at least tell me "to my face" before posting about it here. I think all this could have been avoided if it was handled differently. I would have considered removing linkbucks from ModMii, but the way went down I wouldn't count on it.
On a side note, I just want to mention that my wife insists we donate 11% of our household income to charity. And I decided to also give ALL my linkbucks money (probably about $100/year) to charity in addition to the 11%. My mom has MS and that's one of the big charities I donate to. I don't care if u don't believe me, those who know me well know that I don't bullshit, and those who don't can think whatever they want. I honestly would have considered dropping linkbucks entirely from ModMii if I was approached man to man on the subject. But now I see the MS Society as a more worthy cause than appeasing a couple people. Don't get me wrong, if it was the ONLY way to continue to support DML in ModMii, then I would drop linkbucks... see where this is going? DML is open source, so it can be shared and uploaded to other places as long as the source is available (if crediar hadn't sold DML, then I would have no choice in the matter). I've already got someone hosting them somewhere who actually supports ModMii and I can count on him to continue to upload the latest rev's of DML without trying to pull a fast one on me and break ModMii DML support. So in the end what did this all accomplish? Absolutely nothing, but going forward the DML team will not have control over what rev's are available or featured in ModMii, instead that priviledge will fall on someone else (for now he will remain nameless as I'm not sure he wants me to get him involved in all this).
So you can expect to see a ModMii update with DML support fixed in the next few days. And I want to reiterate that even after all this I have nothing against crediar or WiiPower or any of the DML team. If you would still like some changes made to ModMii, please give me the courtesy of replying to one of my PMs and we can discuss it further in private.
