So, interesting thing happened a few seconds ago. Grabbed my 3DS off of the charger. Opened it, hit the power button, immediately shut it and took out my DSTWO to put a file on it. Re opened it after putting the DSTWO in and the notification light was white. System hung for a few seconds, then the notification light turned blue (as for spotpass), then booted to the SM.

I've never seen it be white before. Ideas?

Also, what does it mean when it's orange? I only know what the (obvious) green, blue, and red are for.

on 3dsfroums they said that a white notification means bricking and reggie will knock on your door in 5 minutes.
but in the same thread they thought that updating it when you used a flashcart will brick it.

When the light is orange that means a friend on your friendlist just signed on. But I have never seen the 3DS display white . Very interesting. Take some pictures quickly if that happens again next time!

Hmmm....

I'm using DSTwo, i hope it's not a nintendo check of 3DS that are using DSTwo, i don't want to lose my embassor privileges.

well white is just 0xFFFFFF so maybe it's just glitched (as you said, it hanged for a little bit)

like maybe the transition from one color to another hanged because of the os's scheduler had something better to do (it happens)...

Ahh, so there are more colors than Nintendo told us about... how like them. ;)

It means that the 3DS has problems while starting that time. I've had it once while I watered my 3DS.(I was so sad, I meant water cam in my 3DS)

And thus ends the bricking rumor once again.
I'm surprised they didn't list out all of the colours the LED could become deoending on the situation.
I bet there's one that almost like a Red Ring of Death

The LED could probably change from a whole array of colors but is just programmed to light up a certain color for certain activity. For all we know there could be purple (maybe lighting red and blue together?) Does anybody know how many LED's are used for the notification light?

Maybe white is when the 3DS transmits your activity log to Nintendo.
*snip
I was being serious by the way :) I think I remember seeing a setting to send activity log data. Not sure if it makes the LED white though.

And I love that song, thanks for the link!

notifications stick on the last tag it got, which is green for streetpass, blue for spotpass and orange for online friends. i can't remember if orange sticks though, but it does for blue and green.
