Because every game that has cover fire is a Gears of War clone because Gears of War definitely invented the third person shooter and a cover system.

You know what, I dig it. The series has drifted towards being more action oriented anyway but they've been too stuck in Resident Evil 4 mechanics (which, while an action game, certainly wasn't balls-to-the-wall like Resident Evil 5 was) to make it a real action game. Resident Evil 5 suffered from this.

I will complain about the cover system though since it's typically useless in a zombie game. Why would you need cover if all your enemies are just going to attack you in close quarters? You may as well stand up and shoot at them. I'm assuming they'll have some ranged enemies in the game but for zombies it's rather useless.

As long as it has Leon Kennedy wisecracking then I'll bite. Series evolve in accordance with the times. Look at Metal Gear Solid (NOT Metal Gear). It started off on the Playstation just like Resident Evil. The game has evolved a lot from the first Metal Gear Solid to MGS4, or Peace Walker if you want to count that as MGS5. Plus I always felt that it was kinda silly that for a bunch of elite trained special ops guys like Chris and Leon that they're about as mobile as a slug with lead boots.

Seriously, who knows if cover is even in the game, it could have been just an in-game cutscene.

Plus, it looks fucking amazing.

'cause RE5 was just RE4 with new graphics :P
Wait, what? RE5 was TOTALLY inferior to RE4 in every single way possible. Except graphics.
Right, because Resident Evil 4 actually stuck to the series plot in more ways than just an overview, your partner wasn't completely useless, there were multiple control options including the original third-person style, multiplayer, and online play... Oh wait, I just described Resident Evil 5 [/my opinions].

Hey, inferior came out of your mouth, dude.
With that I meant that calling RE5 "RE4 with new graphics" is absolutely reductive (obviously in terms of RE4).

Are we talking about the same RE5 where Sheva was one of the most annoying AI-controlled characters ever, which got in your way in every way she could, stealing your ammos, wasting medkits and such?

Cool!

I finished with RE5. I liked Chris Reldfield a lot. He is cool character and Sheva is fun and amazing game. I can't wait for Resident Evil 6 and Resident Evil Revelation as well as Resident Evil The Operational Raccoon City. I have to finish 1-3 soon. I finished 4 and 5. :)

Oh yeah, because Ashley didn't get killed, grabbed, or constantly shout, "where you going, Leon?". At least Sheva could serve as a mule...

What are you talking about this game looks nothing like God of War.

>Resident Evil
>series plot.

Lolokay.

Except Ashely was only in a few missions/levels while Sheva was there THE ENTIRE GAME. The game was basically a complete shithole if you played solo. Best you could do was give Sheva an overpowered Magnum and let her aimbot.

Oh, and nothing's all that "scary" in Resident Evil 5 once you dress Sheva in a slightly racist and skimpy tribal outfit and give Chris a zebra-pattern suit, then suit up with miniguns and infinite RPGs. At least RE4 had suspense. While it was action based it still made you feel helpless at times and gave you fight or flight. I wasn't particularly scared by it but zombies (or whatever zombie shoe-ins they have) don't really give me the creeps.

Resident Evil 4 by far was a superior game.

I think he means gears of war. Because you know, Gears of War invented 3rd person shooters.

Of course, you realize in 4, you drerss up ashley in a skimpy white suit (or a suit of armor) and Leon in a police outfit (or mafia get-up) and can get the infinite Tommy gun and Infinite launcher just as early as in 5. As far as helplessness, no. The only Resident Evil where I felt helpless (no ammo, no health items, low health, and danger in every direction) was 0. 4 and 5 were both terrible at making it seem like a survival game, because you could just shoot one guy in the face, kick the entire hoard down, and knife them to death.

Also: Resident Evil 5 is improved in every way from 4 'cept that Leon isn't in it.

P.S. On an unrelated note, I noticed in 6, they're finally bringing odds and evens together (Leon, Ada, etc. from 2 and 4 plus Jill, Chris, Wesker, etc. from 1, 3, and 5) which means the series will no longer feel split (hopefully).

5 was in absolutely no way an improvement over 4. I don't think it was a bad game by any means, but it certainly wasn't at that same level.

Resident Evil 4, while not really survival horror, was an extremely tense experience. I felt that the game had a nice balance between the horror and the action; it was never really scary, but you had to stay on your toes (except for those regenerating grey things. They freaked the hell out of me). The enemies were well designed and memorable, as were many of the game's setpiece moments (I still have fond memories of the first scene in the village and defending the house with Luis for example). The main character was a lot of fun, as was the plot in general (Sure, it wasn't really connected to the rest of the RE universe, but that gave it a lot of breathing room to do its own thing). Sure, you had to escort Ashley for a bit, but she wasn't that difficult to manage.

Resident Evil 5, on the other hand, seemed to look at what worked in RE4 and tried to emulate it without understanding why/how it worked. That balance between action and horror just wasn't kept (partially because the levels had to be designed with two players in mind), which weakened the tension and suspense. Many of the moments felt copy-pasted from 4 (the onslaught in the village comes to mind), as did the enemies (Dr. Salvador is back, because... well, because). Chris, boulder punching aside, had no real personality, and I can't even remember anything about Shiva's character (She was... there?). The only character that I had fun with was Wesker, but even then he didn't really show up much until halfway through, and then he kind of petered out in the end. The plot was bogged down in trying to tie together Resident Evil's ridiculously convoluted mythology, which certainly didn't help. The focus on co op, though I applaud them for trying something new, could make the single player experience a chore (Even if you didn't like dealing with Ashley, you didn't have to put up with it for the entire game). Plus, the inventory system took a slide in quality (To paraphrase Yahtzee, "I have my armor in a pocket of my armor!"); seriously, how did they screw that up?

Sure, Resident Evil 5 had the nicer graphics, but it had lost a lot of the charm of its predecessor. I wouldn't say that it was a step backwards, but it was definitely a misstep. With this new game, Capcom has a chance to learn from its mistakes and get the series on the right track again; I certainly hope they take advantage of that opportunity.
