No one has any nostalgia for RE5.
My first inclination is to refute that, but I can see where this is coming from.

First, Shinji Mikami had left Capcom after Resident Evil 4, so it was another 7th gen franchise to lose a prominent creative. Second, the devs didn't innovate much compared to RE4. People had mixed feelings about the co-op and inventory system of RE5. (Though fans say Resident Evil 6 is much more paletable with a friend.)

I don't remember thinking it was a bad game, but I know it didn't push the franchise forward. It's a shame because plenty of work went into RE5, but RE4 is objectively the better of the two.

I would argue that without the co-op there was absolutely nothing special about 5. It was one of the first games you could play through with another person online of course these days that's no big deal so remaking it is not a big deal either. The single player campaign was just alright.

Yeah, I don't think the co-op was a bad feature. If anything, it was likely expected by consumers, since there was a large push for multiplayer experiences back in the late 2000's/early 2010's. (I think the whole "single player games don't sell" narrative started around that time.) Critics of the feature usually cite a lack of immersion as the biggest drawback.

Out of all the original mainline RE games, Zero for sure is one that needed one the most.
They need to bring back/remake the Outbreak games, they're basically stuck on the PS2 as they never got the port treatment, doing so will give them a potential new spin-off series that they could explore further alongside the main RE entries if they want to (imho)

Sadly Capcom has yet to bother with any of their older spin-off titles, even those that are considered canon within the main timeline of RE.
Survivor is the one major "spin-off" that does need a proper remake in order to shine above its original release, that one can be done in an incredible spectacular fashion, and I'm sure it will outshine the original just by existing.

Out of all the other spin-offs, I do agree the Outbreaks have the most potential to be something big.
We are just now seeing them bringing up, or even mentioning, characters from the Outbreak series, with the first outing being a file in RE7 by Alyssa herself, and now in RE9 as a main character alongside her daughter.
A mainline 3rd person online co-op Resident Evil title, set within the events of Raccoon City where you must work together to complete scenarios, it's a great idea, and sadly Capcom decided to give those attempts to things like RE:Verse or Resistance, while I dare say that a pseudo remake of Outbreak in that vein would have worked much, much better, and it would have gained even more people towards it just by being a tie-in to the Outbreak titles.

Code Veronica makes the most sense.

RE5 was fun but there's no reason to remake it when the original is a ground-up HD title that runs fantastic.
Code Veronica is a fun novelty but was always the sloppiest; even Zero was a bit more polished. I'm game!
