The "magic solution" is NEVER, EVER buy an R4 clone! The only R4 branded cart you should buy is the R4i Gold from r4idsn.com, as that cart is officially supported by Yellow Wood Goblin and his Wood firmware.

The Acekard 2i is the cheapest alternative and YES, THE EXTRA FEW DOLLARS ARE DEFINITELY WORTH IT. If you've got some extra cash to spend and want a few extra features get a DSTWO, BUT NEVER, EVER BUY AN R4 BRANDED CART AGAIN!!!

I hope this clears quite a few problems up, and cuts away at the number of noobs asking 'h0w do i f1x my R$' every two seconds!!!

Just kidding All jokes aside I feel this topic is a little biased. I mean, I have an R4 and sure I've had problems with it but nothing I couldn't fix on my own. Maybe I'm just more persistent than most when it comes to my games

I snagged an R4i Gold from R4Ids.com. Got it from a user on here. (thanks JustChillin1414) Newest version of Wood, and runs great on my XL. Good stuff. :-P

Well some carts are better than others... But an Acekard would beat them all, hands down. Plus there are sooooo many R4 clones it's hard to tell which is which, or if it's a clone of a clone!

EDIT:@GreatCrippler: Yes, that is the ONLY R4 I would recommend!

Some are OK, but the one I listed is the best, and as I have already said, an Acekard beats them all hands down!

A normal DS game will cost $35? and is only 1 game
An AK2i costs $5 maybe $10? and is a massive library of games + other WAY more awesome homebrew programs.

Yet people will manage to not see that logic and will continue to complain about how much a DECENT flashcard will cost.
Iirc SNES copyboxes where sold over $200 back in the 16 bit days......

edit: Maybe because the R4 is a widely known brand that people will associate all flashcards and call them R4's
Just like they do with an exploit for the Wii or a jTAG hack for the 360.

R4's could be purchased by people who have sufficient knowledge about how to run YSMenu and Wood etc.
As for common people and flashcard kiddies...
It's best that they either purchase a somewhat more expensive card or just forget about it and buy a game for a change.....

Those banners should pop up for newcomers every time they open a page.
It's noticeable that 90% of the R4 related whining and bitching is made by newcomers.

I agree that much of it was just ranting on R4 clones but 99% of it, is just truth.

You've linked the ONLY good clone. The thread is 100% intended for newcomers, who DON'T have any knowledge about how to get such things set up...

No, this thread is intended for you to whine and bitch about newcomers, when really, R4 clones haven't been that bad for ages. You still get somebody every now and again, but the problems have died down so much. I used to help out with flash carts and shit all of the time on a different site I can't name here, back before I joined here (the traffic has died down there a lot the past year for a couple of reasons). This made me very aware to the sheer number of carts out there. You can complain until next year and the year after about the many useless R4 branded carts, and it won't make a damned bit of difference.

People will continue to make mistakes. No bit of text on a forum will change that. What matters is setting them straight once these problems have happened, and hoping that if they ever need help purchasing a cart again, they either ask here or somewhere else with an equally as knowledgeable userbase first.

All I gathered from the first page was a couple of users complaining. We have the blogs section if you feel the need to be dramatic and rant.
