Gaming Something wrong with laptop.

Sometime ago my laptop kept crashing on me, it's done so about 5 times now. It's even done it on the start up screen. No virus and I barely wrong much on it except skype, music, or/and small game.

Try putting an industrial fan under your laptop to suck the heat away from the laptop, either your fan has quit or it is because you have an amd processor which runs hotter than an intel processor

Uhh...even more specific? That shows different options for the CPU and RAM, and the GPU isn't necessarily specific either...you could try going to http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ to scan your hardware (just choose whatever game, it doesn't matter) and so we can figure out what's going on

I don't have good experience with HP. The last HP laptop I had was AMD too and it overheated and turned off from just watching youtube videos in the lowest quality.
The Acer I got to replace it runs very cool, the temperature is literally 40C lower (no exaggeration)
The only thing I can suggest is to throw out the HP, I even RMA'd the HP laptop I had, they replaced the mainboard and it barely helped at all.
Of course, it's not guaranteed that your issue is related to heat. I suggest downloading CoreTemp or SpeedFan and monitoring temperatures regularly when using the computer, and you'll quickly find out if that's the issue. My old HP idled at 70C and got up to 100C+ quickly under load (it turned off at around that point). The Acer idles at less than 30C and goes up to about 70C under load. If your temperatures are around the same of my old HP you probably have the same issue.
If it's heat related, which it most likely is, there's probably not much you can do about it short of replacing the laptop with something else.

yes because that's a helpful solution.....
If it's a heating problem the crash will usually be an automatic shutdown, sometimes a blue screen. Another way to tell is once it crashes see if you can boot it up immediately after, if it does nothing then that means your PC is overheating and that it's shutting down becuase it's at a high temp.
another way to check is to download and install a program called "HWiNFO" when it launches choose sensor only and tell us what temps it's giving you

Well, the last time it froze, I only ran foobar and Super Meat Boy for about 10 mins and then it froze.

I'll do what you suggested and see what I come up with.

Generally a bad fan/cooling system is the problem but seeing as the laptop is only a few weeks old it doesn't seem likely it's the fans.

When it crashes, is the bottom relatively hot (hotter than normal?) Does it sound as if the fans are blowing? Does it look as if the fans are dusty? If so buy some compressed air and clean them out. If you google Speedfan and install that you should be able to control your fan speeds, and while doing that you can also monitor the temperature as well. If all of these things seem fine, it's either a software problem (like a virus or malware) or faulty hardware (such as the CPU or RAM).

I Think its both...

Either way maybe you should reformat you computer to make sure its not a software problem. If its not, try the fan thingy and alll.

If they don't work, best you can do is get a warranty and replaced it or get to repairs, buy yourself a new laptop with a real pro beside you next time

Hold down the windows sign (the one next to either ctrl or alt and it is not the function key) and press R. You should see the run command come up, type in devmgmt.msc and you will be on the device manager screen. Any yellow triangles?

Update the BIOS, HDD firmware, chipset, etcc....

Only used it on my desktop only once and deleted it since, and that was like 6 months ago.

The other errors was when I shut down the laptop when it froze, saying the computer had a unexpected shutdown.

Sounds like a harddrive error then. I like dell systems because of their dell diagnositic utility is quite handy (sounds like you have an HP so it doesn't come equipped with it). But Windows 7 also has some Harddisk checking and error fixing.

Open up Windows Explorer (not internet exploer, the one where it shows all your disks and stuff), right click on your C: (or local disk if you have multiple drives)

Click on properties, then go to the tools tab, and hit error checking. Make sure automatically fix file system errors. The second option will drag out the operation for hours and may not necessarily be the problem (since Windows knows how to work around bad sectors)

Most people can't get as far as you did, which is why I was going to offer to use team viewer (at your permission) to look around, but I'm almost sure that the harddrive is the problem.

Whether it is correctable or not is another question which will be answered after the above
