According to EA, the publisher of SW:TOR, the BETA was one of the biggest in history. The public BETA has attracted 2,000,000 players, while more than 750,000 gamers played during Thanksgiving weekend. The game is getting ready to launch on December 20th to an estimated subscriber list in the millions.

I played in an earlier BETA, it was great. This beta sucked, I barely ever got into a server. I hated that they ran it on thanksgiving too, because I could rarely find time to play it. Hopefully the expected Early Access of 12/15 will occur and they can work out some early kinks

I'm expecting it to be pretty huge. Any casual MMO gamer that hasn't stuck with WoW or Rift will likely be going to this. Though I don't see it PULLING too many players from either game.

You keep saying that, but pre-orders alone in US topped wow's first year of subs globally, and with a poll of 10,000 people that played beta, over 95% said they plan on buying the game.

Oh i'm sure it'll pull vets ready to quit, and die-hard Star Wars fans.
But it's the same game and I doubt too many typical WoW players are going to ditch so much wasted time so they can do the same thing with a lightsaber instead.
This'll be big, but it'll be big with its own playerbase. I doubt either game is going to take any REAL damage. Well, Rift might. But it has like 10 players left so, what, 1 leaves and that's 10% of the population gone.

I bought rift when It was on sale for 5 dollars, and after getting to level 12 I wanted my money back. Game is so bad.

But, I don't think Swtor and WoW are the same game.

It uses the Tank Healer DPS holy trinity, and that was there before wow.

It's WoW but better, core wise anyways. Every mechanic and gameplay element is the same but better than WoW, but it failed to be different enough to steal enough of the casual fanbase to actually GO anywhere. Casual MMOs are social MMOs. Social MMOs sucks with no one to be social with. Not to mention it has an obvious lack of content due to WoW being ancient. Rift was pretty popular when it launched, but bombed pretty quickly thanks to shitty endgame content.
I'm curious to see how SWTOR works out in that regard. Since it's a game focused on PvE and social interaction, it's a hell of a lot more important to have "end game content" as opposed to a PvP MMO where you simply just hone your skill and perfect your builds. It better be packin' from the get-go or it'll lose some of its momentum.

Though it's still destined to do way better than Rift, solely based on its theme.

They wont, its 100% impossible to pirate an MMO, Worst you can do is hack and make a private server, but its 200% shit.

Playing the beta convinced me to buy this, what a great time I had. Semi-big Star Wars fan here and even though I never played any MMO's I always liked the concept of it. The other players were great as well, way better than the WoW community from what I've heard.

It's an MMORPG, you can't hack it since it's an account you buy not the game (kind of)
Just look like any other mmorpg, sure you can download them and fire up the game, but you can't logg on since you don't have an account since you didn't buy the game.
And console can't handle mmorpgs, maybe next gen consoles will support mmo, but this gen of console sure don't.
