hello i finaly dismantled my 360 and got the dvd drive out of it,problem is i seems to understand i need a special adapter to power the drive while it's attached to my pc? is there any other way to power it that doesn't need the adapter?

also,i checked the cables and i got a yellow cable so i guess that means my drive is a lite-on but i seems to understand that there are different kind of lite-on and each kind requires different steps? how i'm supposed to know which kind of lite-on do i have?

umm... well i guess i don't have any other question at the moment, after i connect the drive to my pc,i just have to get the key with jungleflasher right? anything i should know perhaps?

I'm gonna say there's no 'good' way to power it without the adapter. If you power it with your 360, you will flag your 360 for a ban.

On the drive, it says what type it is. Read the label.

You will need a CK3 probe or make your own to get the key.

You can power it from the Xbox itself. Be warned that some guides I have read do not advise this tho. If you do do it that way be sure to get a gator clip and ground the Xbox to your PC chassis.

In your other thread you said you bought it preflashed. Did you not get a copy of your key when you purchased it?

Using the Xbox 360 to power the drive will flag your xbox. However, if you choose to not plug in the video cable you will not get flagged. (NOTE: if you unplug the video cable, the xbox automatically shuts off after a certain amount of time) So basically, as long as you flash the drive quickly, you won't be in any trouble.

Also, the flag is not a ban flag, but in the future MS could use it to ban people if they wanted. They haven't done anything like that yet. All we know is using the 360 power without the SATA cable does leave a flag up. So just consider that when doing this.

nope i don't have the key, besides wouldn't i still need to power the dvd drive to flash to LT 2.0 even if i had it?

i don't really care about getting flagged if that's the only problem

yes i was wondering what kind of firmware was inside the dvd drive since i seems to understand that different kind of firmware need a different guide to flash? tough maybe since my drive is already flashed to ixtreme 1.0 i don't have this problem?

You will need a CK3 probe or make your own to get the key.

i tought the probe was needed only on newer 360? i own a phat with a pre-XGD3 firmware in it so....

Lite-On drives require probes.
Read the label it says what firmware is on the drive. Gives you the revision.

If you already have your key, you're good. but the probe is NECESSARY to get your key. and your key is NECESSARY to flash to anything.

Yes you'd still need to power it, but I thought that if you might have had the key you then won't need the probe. If your not worried about being banned then just power the drive with your 360. Yes you still need the probe since you don't have a copy of your key.

I've never hear'd that before. If you do it and it's not the right key you'll be fucked since you will have written over the right one. Best to get the probe or if you live in the US get in contact with Devin he offers free flashing.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
