Hacking Flashing back to stock firmware, why?

Hi, I am wondering: A lot of guides talk about flashing a dvd drive back to stock firmware. Why is this?

With the newer dashboard updates they can flash your drive back to stock fw, flag you for ban and make it a lot harder to reflash your drive. Its always reccomended to flash back to stock before any dashboard update in case the new dashboard has something that could mess your flashed drive up.

But say: My box is banned from live (and it really is). Should I still flash it back to stock before an update?

It can still flash your drive iirc and make it harder to reflash.

Well, actually depending on your drive it could reflash it or not, what kind of drive do you have? Because certain drives are not effected. And they pretty much flash and lock your drive so that you're unable to flash it, so you would have to unlock it (That I can't remember how to do.)

Basically it's really just a safety measure, I've updated my dash with a flashed drive and I was fine.

It makes it harder by moving the location of where the drive key is stored. Jungle flasher has been updated to find the new location, but if you have a Lite-on drive you'll need to use the probe again. This is all null and void tho if you have a back up of your key since the key is not changed when MS flsahes your drive to the new firmware. If your already banned and have a back up f your key there is no need to flash back to stock before you going straight to LT+2.0.

I just rigged it up and checked, and yea it saved it in KeyDB thank god, but it refuses to flash LT+2 or 1.9 because of outdated dash :|
