here's my specs:

Intel core i3 -2330 Processor ( 2.2GHz, Dual Core, 4Thread, 3M cache )
4GB DDR3 -1066
500G HDD
VGA AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6470M - 1 GB (actually my laptop has 2 VGAs, the other is an Intel HD 3000)

I installed MGS 2 and click play, but a black screen appeared, even worse there's no sound at all. At first I thought I was using the Intel vga mode, so I set the Radeon vga mode, at high performance. Nothing changed.
Anyone knows what the problem is? :( I guess my VGA does not support the game.

Well your specs are way more than enough to handle the game.
Are you on windows 7 or vista? If you are then the game doesn't normally work on them . Try following the guide here on how to make it work .

It's a pretty old game, have you tried going into properties and ticking all the compatibility settings?

Maybe the problem is that I'm using Win 7. I've tried changing the compability settings but it was useless. This is my third attempt of installing MGS2 on a third laptop and it still doesnt work like the previous ones.

Try this just in case.

For Windows Vista/7 32/64 Bit Users
* Install the game (Do the 7,6 GB full installation)
* Apply the patch 2.0 "mgs2patch" from the Crack folder
* If you have a GeForce adapter, apply "mgs2-gf-patch.exe"
* If you have an All-In-Wonder adapter, apply "mgs2-aiw-patch.exe"
* Install ALUNI_PCVTAPP_LB_1_00_8 Creative ALchemy Universal
* Open it after installing
* Click add
* Enter Game Title "MGS2"
* Location > Use Game Path > paste your Metal Gear Solid 2 installation's bin folder location ( Default is C:\Program Files (x86)\KONAMI\MetalGearSolid2 Substance )
* Check the last option "Disable Direct Music "
* Click Ok
* Go to the game folder and now you'll see these files: dsound.dll and dsound.ini
* Copy and paste them into the "bin" folder
* Play the game

Also for people who try to run this on a multi-core CPU e.g Dual/Quad core try this:
While the game is running open the Task Manager by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del. In the Application Tab rightclick "Metal Gear Solid 2: SUBSTANCE" and click "Go To Process". Rightclick "mgs2_see.exe" and set Affinity to one core.
