Apple has had a bigger impact on video games than Nintendo or PlayStation 1.
That's according 1000 people working within the video games industry, who filled out a London Games Conference survey ahead of its start (10th November).
The top five people that have shaped video games are, apparently, Steve Jobs (26 per cent), Gabe Newell (16 per cent), Shigeru Miyamoto (seven per cent), Tim Berners-Lee (four per cent) and Mark Zuckerberg (three per cent).
A considerable 46 per cent of voted Steve Jobs somewhere in a top-five position.
The top five products to have shaped video games are, apparently, iPhone (17 per cent), Wii (seven per cent), Xbox Live (three per cent), PlayStation 1 (three per cent) and Steam (two per cent).
There must have been a wide spread of results for the top-five entrants to have such a low percentage of votes.
Incidentally, iPhone was voted as a top-five product by 53 per cent of survey participants.
Did Steve Jobs passing away in early October, and the arrival of iPhone 4S, in any way skew results? Perhaps. But Apple, and the man that fronted it, have proven troublesome for Nintendo's 3DS, and may also present a problem to Sony's PlayStation Vita. Whether that threat will continue into the living room, and to PlayStation and Xbox, remains to be seen.

what are these people smoking

They're trolling. I can't even take that seriously.

Not only have Apple not influenced anything in the game industry, but they aren't even part of the gaming industry!

Edit:

Mark Zuckerberg is on there too?.... Ha!

You must be insane to think that Apple isn't part of the gaming industry. Handhelds are already in severe competition with iPhones and other smartphones because the casual gaming market is the biggest and Apple has dominated it with cheap, independent games readily available without frills.

In terms of their influence, well, creating one of the first accessible home computers must have done something significant.

You can't be talking about Apple products then. Accessible? All, and i mean ALL, Apple products are just EXPENSIVE! Very, VERY expensive.

The Apple II? An extremely high selling personal computer that was widespread in schools and offices for more than 20 years and became one of the ideal platforms for business, work, and gaming because of its introduction of the GUI into the consumer market. Don't you think that deserves credit?

You know nothing about the history of Apple, don't you?

Also, flash games? Last time I checked, iPhones didn't even have Flash.

If steve didn't die, he wouldn't be on the top of that list.

People are just "sucking him off", Just in the same way the did when Michael Jackson died.

Steve did NOT invent anything, he did not pioneer , He STOLE the idea's,

Steve refused to donate his money/Apples Money to charity, Unlike Bill Gate, who gives 50% of his money away, Funny how that works.

Oh gawd, why can't people just see a little bit over their mindless Apple hate? *facepalms* That'd be enough to see why they voted Apple.

iPhones and iPads are the new frontier of casual gaming. All of you "hardcore" gamers might not like that, but that's where the big bucks are.

A single name: Angry Birds. Yeah, it sucks, but it sold millions. MILLIONS. And companies do care about money, not what you like or what you think that it's superior gameplay-wise.

Kthxbai

EDIT:
Another nice fact: Most of you are teenagers, that's why the price of an Apple product looks like overpriced to you, but most adult people do not care about spending that much for a nice trendy piece of hardware. And they're not made for games, they ALSO play games, that's why they cost so much in respect to a normal handheld console.

Atari gave birth to the home gaming industry. It was a slip-up caused by idiots, but you can't hate on Atari. Besides, we're talking about who invented console gaming. (atari)

have proven troublesome for Nintendo's 3DS,
Regarding the effect of so-called “social games," it seems that so many people believe in the causal relationship between the decline in Nintendo’s business performance and the rapid expansion of social games just because these two events have happened simultaneously. On the contrary, we do not believe that they are a big factor in our slower performance today.

@op Yeah, right. :rolleyes:

'Cause saving the game industry and introducing new things to games isn't a very big influence.
