Videos and also MP3s which is extremely disappointing because the 3DS now actually supports mp3s (DSi did not.) And the MP3 player is great, you can alter the pitch/tempo on the spot which is great for adjusting houseish/technoish/etc shit to suit your tastes.

im sorry but you must be using low quality earphones.
since i have discovered how to use the mp3 player (took me for about a month...) i have been using it daily.
now my day starts and ends with about 2 hours on the train... and it doesnt matter where i am at all, i cant hear anything except for the music.
also im not using big earphones at all... only the earplug ones

Maybe we have different models. I've plugged my 3DS into my car tape adapter and it's the same low volume, I plug in my other mp3 player and much louder.

I've played a demo 3DS at Target and was surprised there was a MUCH MUCH higher max volume. What the fuck is this ? ? ? ? I think some 3DS systems have gimped volume and it pisses me off.

more edit: games in DS mode can be loud as shit. So why the hell is sound restricted in SOME 3DSes in 3DS mode ? ? ?

the 3DS generally have very low volume. when watching videos i plug mine on the laptop and pump the mic volume up about 30 decibels... now it's blaring, and sounds damn proper too. the good part is, although it's low volume, it's really nice quality. even after amping 30 decibels, the audio sounds crystal clear. generally amping more than 10 decibels kinda shatters the quality somewhat, so i'm surprised that the audio in this thing is crystal.

When watching videos on my 3DS the sound is very low and can barely hear it at times. I've tried 5 different types of headphones and the video sound quality is still far below average. It really differs from video to video, as some i can hear just fine and others i can barely hear even when i put my ear right next to the speaker. However, when playing games the volume is very loud even without headphones, with the exception of Centipede Infestation, which has garbage sound quality during cut scenes (can't hear what the characters are saying at all).
